Got a promotion...

Post by XMEN Ashaman DTM »

You are now looking at a soon to be GS-13. I'm going on a 2-week training thing today, but when I get back I'm going to be moving to a different work location. Totally different command, program, and environment.

I'll be near the trident sub base near seattle. :D

I should have email and internet while I am gone though. (At least that's what they tell me.)

And no, the training and promotion are not connected.

Thanks guys!

I was finally able to do a remote login for my email. I found out that the earliest anything can happen is 24 May. And it is kind of dependent on my losing command letting me go. But the losing command can't keep me forever; I think it's 30 days.

Anyways, we're moving again here in the next month or so. It should be fun!

Well, the first month on the job was... interesting.

They told me it was a promotion to a lead engineer position. And when I arrived, they told me I was the program manager. Talk about a change in responsibilities! I'm still not sure I like it, but it's new and it's a learning opportunity. I've got one quality assurance guy now, and I'll have another by the end of the summer. And I'm sort of the onsite team lead. It's all still DoD, so I haven't changed agencies again or anything. But lately I've seen a LOT of GS-14 positions opening up around here, and I would only need a year at the GS-13 level to be eligible for promotion.

There are days where I really miss Edwards. And there are days where I hate the job so much. But, I keep telling myself it's good for my professional development, my family, and our finances.

And there's the small issue of the program maybe being cancelled, or the Navy shuffling positions and programs around to other locations. Basically, if either of those things happen, my position would move, but I don't think I would. So... maybe we'll be moving again? If the job just isn't worth all the headaches, then maybe. If the program moves or civilians start getting RIFed, then we'll move. If a promotion comes along, then we'll move also. Then again, we might not like where we're moving. Who knows?

It's funny to think back 10 years ago. All the things that we (us gamers) were all doing. And it's interesting to see how things have played out for all of us. Yes, I'm nostalgic for the old times. And yes, I see what real life does to us (the good and bad). I've always been thankful for you guys, but not always vocal about it. Thanks for always being supportive... even during disagreements. ;)

Lead Engineer to Production Manager? Wow.

I know exactly what you mean about 10 years ago... I remember the annual Mega LAN event at the daycare, and the odor.. Oh the odor! My car never smelled 'quite right' after one of those trips.... Ravok had an issue with farting while sleeping....
