NWN Fighter Tactics

Post by XMEN Ravok »

I love it, I have a Half-Orc Ranger with a STR of 20 (+5!) and a WIS of 12 (+1) that I will update as he progresses in levels to 14 so he can cast all his spells.

He is an in your face Heavy Armored, Greatsword wieldin' fighter that calls on his pet Bear, Baelin, to enter the fray when things get thick.

Trackless step, Dual Wield, and his Bonuses don't count on a case of his AC, but umm, he doesnt care.

He is slowly building up his weapon proficiencies and Lore. Basically, he can carry 266 lbs so my point is to make him a walking Loot Box.

OH yeah, and Red? I know you are reading this, an Elven Thief can wield a Longbow and get pointblank shot, then get Rapid Fire as a feat later on. That gives your Archer a really good attack ratio, and yes the backstab damage applies even with a bow if you can hit em via sneak attack.

Dont over look the advantage of Called Shot too, that function is GREAT vs Mages. Pin the mage down, give him extra damage, Then wail on him with rapid shot.

Anyway, this is my way of saying hello!

Alright, a few comments.

1) You know you're losing the rangers main advantage or dual weild by sticking him in heavy armour, right?
2) A fighter would have at least three times as many feats by now (but no bear or spells. I wonder if the spells are really worth it, though).
3) My (human) rogue started with Point Blank and Rapid Fire, and still stank. Didn't deal nearly enough damage, even with 3d6 sneak attack dice. I may keep working on her, though, who knows?

<img border="0" src="http://www.xmenclan.org/avatars/t2red.g ... >
RedSirus@

Dragon Talon Mercenary > <a href=http://server2.ezboard.com/bdragontalon ... >
DTM Community > <a href=http://pub18.ezboard.com/fdtmonlinecomm ... s>RedSirus' Reviews

Brainwashed Fishmonger > Forum ...

I have found the sneak attack to be exceptionally lethal later in the game. Thieves get one attack levels 1-7, 2 at 8-14, and 3 at 15+ levels. Rapid shot gets you +1 attack per round, and if you're hasted you get another +1 attack. At 15th level with five successful sneak attacks (not too hard to do) you get 40d6 points of damage in addition to the weapon's normal damage. That would mean with every five successful sneak attacks you would average 140pts of damage a round. Fighting undead, constructs, dragons, and anything else immune to sneak attacks though is a pain cause your damage feels pathetic.
<img src="http://www.rit.edu/~mbt1074/Angel%20Sig ... I love roleplaying Ravok-99 as a Half Orc Ranger, lol Lawful Good no less! I know that I could do better with a Barbarian (HP) or a Fighter (Feats and special moves), but I wanted a plain Fighter that has a companion. For that, I tweaked a Ranger. I could have tweaked a Druid but deep down, I like a Ranger for some reason.

I am currently experimenting with my options on a character I like. Roleplaying a Druid may yet turn out to be interesting, but I would have to work on a high wisdom to cast all the spells. High Wis == Low Strength. And the lower HP makes for a careful Druid.

I like dual-classing Ranger/Rogue, giving the Rogue a good start in Feats and AC bonuses without losing too much of a Rogue's momentum (Rangers can hide/move silently/ listen/spot at one point per level so the Rogue wont lose his ability to sneak.)

When we get together, I may just go for a Lvl 10 Ranger, Lvl 10 Rogue :: Elven. Its a decent setup, and will be interesting to see how he/she does in the game.

"When we get together", you assume we're running 20th level characters? None of mine have hit level SEVEN yet. I only play online, and with different people, so sometimes they never get off the ground.

<img border="0" src="http://www.xmenclan.org/avatars/t2red.g ... >
RedSirus@

Dragon Talon Mercenary > <a href=http://server2.ezboard.com/bdragontalon ... >
DTM Community > <a href=http://pub18.ezboard.com/fdtmonlinecomm ... s>RedSirus' Reviews

Brainwashed Fishmonger > Forum ...

I always start the game with a goal in mind, a 10/10 rnger/rogue is the end result that I am looking for.

You nut.
