Star Trek: Bridge Commander

Post by XMEN Gambit »

I just played the demo - took a little over half an hour. Big download, 100+ MB.

They've finally made a game that feels like you're sitting in the 'big chair'. Incredibly faithful to NextGen feeling and looks, it includes things like Sovereign-class ships (Enterprise-E from "First Contact" and "Insurrection" movies) and I thought I saw one that looked like the Enterprise-C. Your own ship is the Galaxy-class 'D'.

For the first mission, the one that's in the demo, Picard himself sits to your left to brief you on the controls and stations. You can fly the ship yourself or let the helmsman do it (it's his job, after all). Talk to the crew at their stations to reallocate power, scan, etc. Watch comunications on the big screen with the helmsman and weapons officer in the way. Fight Romulan warbirds with Klingons by your side. K'plagh!

Lightning-fast reflexes are not a requirement, but it does help to learn the various stations' menus. It ain't no Starfleet Academy, that's for sure.

I doubt it's perfect, but it seems Pretty Darn Good and is worth a look.

www.totallygames.com

XMEN member
Card-carrying DTM
OKL Fish-napper

Though a program be but three lines long,
someday it will have to be maintained.
- The Tao of Programming
Life is complex; it consists of real and imaginary parts.
Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub3.ezboard.com/uxmengambit.sho ... ge=EN>XMEN Gambit at: 2/16/02 3:05:23 pm

I think that this is the Star Trek game I've been waiting for. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)"> I will most likely buy it. Is there going to be multiplayer support?

[Ravok-99]
Proud Member of the THZ*
Proud Member of the XMEN
Proud to be a part of the Dragon Talon Mercenaries

Downloaded it and gave it a try.

The only bad thing I found was the lip-synching... whooooo. Other than that, I had a good time with it. Menus are a little bit cluttered for my tastes, but I think that's just becuase I'm new at it.

I'm soooo glad you can let the crew take care of things... that's what I've been wanting in a ST game, and I just might pick this one up because of it.

Member: DTM, XMEN
Professional Tank Driver
Card-carrying Base-Cracker
Ugly Son-Of-A-Gun

Bug's Tank Bumper Sticker:
"If you can read this, you're already street pizza."

I may go and pick this up when it comes out. It would be interesting if we could get a group together to play together.

I am currently downloading the demo, and I look forward to commanding an Akira class starship.
-LoS-TimberWolfvehicle specilist

"Don't Drink And Drive, Get High And Fly Home" said by Neckhole

Been playing the Demo when I can and I love it. Takes a bit to get use to it, and to figure out all the controls but it is good.

It is interesting, one Klingon Bird of prey can take out 3 Federation Galaxy Class Starships. That and there is no warning before blowing up in a planets atmosphere.
-LoS-TimberWolfvehicle specilist

"Don't Drink And Drive, Get High And Fly Home" said by Neckhole

There is some warning in the atmosphere. If you look out the front of the ship (or I think an external view) you'll see the upper atmosphere ionizing as it blows past the shields. The first time I played the demo mission, where you have to destroy the planetary fragments, I think I pushed the limit. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)">

Er, you did have the shields up, keptin?

Oh, and the deal with the bird of prey - did you try boosting your sensor power on the Fed ships? You MIGHT get a faint sensor reading if you do; I haven't tried it but seems, er, logical. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /laugh.gif ALT=":lol">

XMEN member
Card-carrying DTM
OKL Fish-napper

Though a program be but three lines long,
someday it will have to be maintained.
- The Tao of Programming
Life is complex; it consists of real and imaginary parts.

I was playing around in the planets atmosphere wail being fired apon by several Warbirds. One of them pulled off and went after another starship but the other one cloaked and followed me in. So I did a monuver from the TV show and went into the atmosphere far enough to get the following ship to enter it as well, and then shoot it. After hitting it with the aft torps, I turned around and hit it with the banks. TO prevent from colliding with it I used the tractor beam and pushed it to far down. As the Warbird blew up below, a chunk of it flew into my engines, taking off my port necell. I tried to get close to the planet and fly out on a tangent, but the atmosphere got me.

The birds of prey's cannons can blast through shields and the hull very quickly, and yet take a good beating. I hit a bird of prey by accident with a Galaxy and lost half of my phasers and my hull dropped by a quarter. I have timed several games, one having 5 Galaxys vs. 3 Warbirds and another having 5 Birds of Prey vs. 3 Warbirds, and the Birds of Prey did more damage faster.
-LoS-TimberWolfvehicle specilist

"Don't Drink And Drive, Get High And Fly Home" said by Neckhole

Well, they are much more manuverable ships... (grasping at staws here <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)"> )

But that bit with your fight in the atmosphere sounds VERY nifty!!

XMEN member
Card-carrying DTM
OKL Fish-napper

Though a program be but three lines long,
someday it will have to be maintained.
- The Tao of Programming
Life is complex; it consists of real and imaginary parts.

Yes they are very nimble, but its their weapons that kill. I flew as one of them a few times. They take a beating and keep on ticking. They have advance torp.s and 2 disrupter connons that fire 3 shots each. The cannons can take out shields fast, and then the torps take the hull out fast. The federation can disable ships nicely but they really can't dis-out damage all that well.
-LoS-TimberWolfvehicle specilist

"Don't Drink And Drive, Get High And Fly Home" said by Neckhole

My wife got the game for me for my birfday.

I like it. There are some bugs in it, but they don't keep you from enjoying the game. I give it two thumbs up for a good story line.

My first officer was a witch, though. .i got it to, will have to agree with your opion too RJ .i bit of advice though if you ant to disable something take out the shield gen then use the phaser only on LOW setting .you will stop doing hull damage or almost none at all .then you can pick off the systems you want and not blow them up
