Ok, tidbits here:

1) Uses SecuROM. Blech. Only for a disc check though, so it's not installing the full nasty suite, stealing cycles, etc.

2) Doesn't play well as a FPS. You _can_ do it that way, but it's rough.

3) Character creation system is... funny, extended, mixed with the tutorials, etc. Kind of like Oblivion, but it starts much earlier.

4) Love the soundtrack! Some old 40's jazz & stuff.

5) So far most amusing moment: Walking down a street in a completely destroyed, deserted town, pilfering mailboxes. A little robot that looked a lot like Sputnik (?!?!) floats by, playing "Battle Hymn of the Republic" and other patriotic tunes, but completely ignored me.

6) Gameplay takes a little getting used to. As stated does not play well as an FPS. The VATS system is great, but it doesn't always pick a good camera angle for the slow-mo, decapitating headshot, etc.

More later. I might even start a narrative if y'all don't mind spoilers. :)

I'm interested in picking this up, but not at full retail.

I think I'll pass on this one... not enough time to play.. :/ But a narrative would be good. :D

Watching my bro play just made me want to reinstall Oblivion. (Looks like the same engine and everything.)

Yup, same engine, different UI and universe.

Incidentally, there's some nice voice talent in here:

Liam Neeson : Dad
Malcolm McDowell : President
Ron Perlman : Narrator. "War. War never changes."

several others.

In-game music includes:
Stars & Stripes Forever
Battle Hymn...
Yankee Doodle
Dixie
Marine Corps Hymn
(probably others)

And these golden oldies:

Bah. Figured out my crashing problem. Seems Bethesda didn't worry too much about folks with quad-cores. Sigh. Found an entry on their message forums with a game config file change that seemed to do the trick, and it seems reasonably stable now with that change plus the patch. I'm actually enjoying the game now instead of trying to get somewhere before the next crash!

Guess I'll have to work on that narrative. :)

Fallout 3 available from GoGamer for a 48-hour madness sale. $32.90. Worth it, IMHO.
