Some players say if you take your ships far enough out then they won't be seen by Kha'ak. I think they said some where about 400km out. Basicly the futher the better.

I am getting a Geforece 6800 GT from Ashaman for $35. That will hold my computer up long enough for me to save up money to build an entirely new system.

Some time this week when I get the chance I will reinstall X3 and see if that fixes my menu problem. The modderators at the X-tech forums don't seem too bright as they told me to try things that I had listed in my first post as tried and failed. The other players gave me better ideas. Heres hopping that it works. If not I brought my X2 CD's with me to install and play.

Weird. I replied earlier but it didn't take apparently.

I played last night for a little bit, first time in a while. I had to restart three times due to me being greedy. I am doing the Don missions with his daughter. I went to the Disrupter Missle factor and was destroyed trying to cap the Yaki fighters instead of flee after I survived the scan of the station. I found a hole to perch into that hid me from enemy fire.

I jumped out and was able to get three yaki to bail. But I kept trying for one more and it got the better of me. I did it twice before I finally gave in and tried to run. I got one to bail and came back later. In the meantime I did something I have never done before. Before docking, I ejected all of the frieght on board the ship I was on. It wasn't mine after all so I tried it. And it worked. I ended up getting a Triplex Scanner, a 25MJ Shield, two BEHPs, 2 AHEPs, Boost, Extension, SETA Drive, Jumpdrive, Both Fight Command Softwares, and Navigational Software. Not to mention about ten or fifteen missles. While I didn't benefit directly, other than the missles and the Triplex Scanner, I ordered one of my ships to come and pick up the other stuff to outfit for one of my capped Novas. I didn't script anything in, and since I had to blow 10,500 on Computer Components to get the damn mission up and going I felt I got my just out of it.

Speaking of Novas, I capped another one... weird. I find if I sneak up on them and hit them with two missles to disorient them and hammer on them with full guns blazing they bail quickly. At least I got two to do that.

Argon Buster - Starter - Freed Glory
Toucan Hauler - Freebie - ST-AP-Hauler-01
Split Iguanna - Freebie - Docked - Turning into a Salvage Vessel.
Sunburst - Freebie - Docked - Not sure what I will do with this.
Pirate Nova - Capped - Docked - Will turn into Escort for Hauler.
Pirate Nova - Capped - Enroute to Argon Prime - Will turn into Escort for Iguanna.
Yaki Raider - Capped - Enroute to Argon Prime - Will sell.

To date. Capped 15 ships, sold 12 to fund my declining empire. These missions are starting to cost me and I have one coming up that will cost me 250k and get nothing in return. I plan on only keeping heavy fighters and transports right now. Everything else I will get rid of unless I need an escort. I will only keep capped ships once I get my PHQ for blueprints only, otherwise I will sell. My credits went from 1mil to 750k by outfitting the Hauler for ST duty. I am going to drop it some more when I outfit my Salvage ship. I've got 5 hours of in game time played.

Ok this is my update in the form of a question. What should I do now?

I have approximately $950,000.00 in the bank. I have a number of ships at the ready but nothing big enough to cart large or x-large containers.

What should I do from here? Wait to get some more funds?

Argon Buster - Freed Glory

Pirate Nova - Capped
Pirate Nova - Capped
Xenon L - Capped

Tucan Hauler - Sector Trader - ST01-AP-Hauler
Iguanna Vangaurd - Sector Trader - ST02-QR-Iguanna
Starburst - Claimed - Docked

So my question is, should I buy a Mammoth and outfit it right now as a ST until I can get a factory going and then use it to haul Ore? Or should I focus on ST right now to increase credit income quicker?

950k is far short of the millions it takes to buy a Mammoth. I am assuming your asking about a Mercury.

It is up to how you want to run your character. Either way I would work on the economics to build up your funds. Maybe starting with a simple station would help. It will take a long time to rebuild the initial startup costs but once you get a single station it becomes cheaper to add more to it.

What I started to do was to use the basic Mercuries to service my first station. After a couple of addons I switched them out to Super Frieghters which were large enough to handle the demands. The next step is to try and make the complex as self sufficient as possible with as few external resources bought as possible. By then you should have started another station else where with the original Mercuries. Expand that complex until you need Super frieghters and repeat the process. This way you buy the least amount of frieghters and maximize profit. Any extra ships that form from making your complexes self sufficent can be turned into ST's and later into UT's.

I have been building 1 MJ Shield fab in Argon space as my first station in all of my games. In fact my plot game has two running in Ore Belt near the large Ore and Silicon asteroids to be added later. That complex is currently self supplying Cahoonas and only needs to buy energy cells and ore from the AI. Even with two shield fabs the station can't keep them in stock long. There are 3 Argon equipment docks near by that buy from it. But I will tell you this, it will take several game days to earn back the initial cost of starting any station. So start small and support it with capturing more ships. Periodicly add another station and the needed support and then let it run on its own while you go pirate some more.

You can start up several small stations, one in each race or profitable sector you choose. Expand them as you see fit for making more money. It does help to have ST's near by helping the local economy. It is usually cheaper in the long run to build large complexes than seperate stations or smaller ones. Just make sure you either have goods that sell themselves or you have fast transport ships to go long distances.

These are my observations. I still can't get X3 running even after reloading. I will try again after finals and when I get home for break.

Ah yes, Mercury is what I meant... I would like to go with the 1MJ shield fab but funds are tight... 2mil for one factory not to mention the ships I will need to supply it with resources just to keep it in the black. I will see. I may buy the mercury now and use it as another ST to get up rep and credits for now. I am going to finish the third part of the mission about the crystals. I did the Yaki Disrupter MIssle part and the Xenon crystal in a crate part. I am heading to Paranid Prime to finish the third part. When I do I am moving over to a Nova and beginning my pirate hunting to try and cap more ships to suppliment my income.

I didn't want to buy 3 frieghters to service my new station so I spent extra money to build part of the support structure for it. If you build one 1 MW shield plant you can build a Cahoona Bakery M and a Cahoona Ranch M to eliminate one of the imports. That way all you need is energy and ore. It also has a plus because it will produce extra Cahoona's to sell. Later on you can add another 1 MW shield plant and that will use up the rest of the Cahoona's. So if your looking into keeping your frieghter fleet to a min then thats something to look into when your building your stations.

Ok, two quick things.

1) I capped a Kha'ak Interceptor. Not a big deal I know but I thought it was cool when it went blue. I damn near destroyed it. It went blue with half hull left and I hit it a few more times from previous fire and knocked it down to 12% hull. I will keep it to RE it. I won't sell it unless I can get another one.

2) Serious problem. I tried finishing the crystal missions with the Dons daughter and it wont let me. I must have done them out of order as I did the Yaki disrupter station first, then the Xenon sector one, then the paranid one. When I completed the paranid portion it told me to head over to Omancketslats Treaty to check out the station. But I did and it wont let me complete it. I did notice a huge number of argon military in the core sectors now though. There are groups of Novas camped in front of each gate with Centaurs and Titans flying around Argon Prime, Home of Light, and Ore Belt.

So my question what next? Is this part of the normal missions? I can't do anything to the station so Im stuck.

1) The Intercepter is worthless unless you have the weapons for it which you can only get from capturing other Kha'ak.

2) It is designed so you can choose which mission to do first. I did the Missile fab then Xenon and finaly the Paranid. If your mine is setup then you have to wait until the operator contacts you to pick up the object in question. It will take a little while.

2.1) The forces are building up because of the story. Think 9/11 from reality, except that Argon has better reaction time.

What mine? Am I supposed to build a mine somewhere? I have no mention of having to build one in my messages.

Sorry, mistook where you were. You should have gotten a message to meet a paranid in Elena's Fortune for the crystal. Make sure you take plenty of money. If you don't have that in your message log then you have to meet another paranid at the Trading station in emperor mines.

The mine I am talking about is given to you later for something else in the plot. But again it deals with the paranid.

I did that. Fought off the waves of Khaak and he tried to flee but was destroyed by ramming and asteroid that was hidden to look like a gate. I grabebd the crystal before that cloaked ship did. Then I got a message saying to check out the Disrupter fab in that sector. Went there and nothing.

Ok, did a quick check of the game and it appears to be running again. Didn't play at all. There are a couple of graphical glitches now but there are options that suppost to correct them. Been playing Age of Empires3 which I got for Christmas.

Ash, you still stuck or did you get past it? As for me, I had started the Bala Gi missions but need to finish the plot to be able to land in Paranid Prime to continue any further.

Yeah I figured it out and finally finished the plot. I had to redo it because while doing the last few missions that I couldn't break away from I had earned about 3mil in credits by my traders. When the plot was done I had 0. So I restarted, transfered all my funds to my Ore Mine so I wouldn't loose all of it.

Now I am trying to get my credits up to get some fabs built in Argon Prime. Outfit a small army of ships to support my Universal Traders that are about to be set free on the Universe. Then I'm going to shoot for the Bala Gi missions.

Although I just recently got a new PC and still have not transfered the game over yet I haven't played it on this new pc.

A small update.

I got the game switched over to my new PC and although it isn't as fast CPU speed I can already notice the difference. My old PC was a 3.4 Intel chip. The new PC is a 2.6 equivalent AMD chipset. Same amount of RAM 2Gigs. Much larger HDD (320 over 160) though and a better vid card (Radeon x1800 over the Radeon 9800) which may be the reasoning why its much faster. The way I can tell is the main load screen when trying to select to continue. Before it hesitated before going from one option to the next. Now I have to use the mouse because using the keys are too fast.
