[Space Sim] X3: Reunion

Post by TimberWolf »

Here is the sequal to X2: The Threat. It was going to be the expansion pack but so much was being added they decided to make it a stand alone game. If you thought the Universe in X2 was big, take a look at the following screenshot:

http://www.egosoft.com/games/x3/screens ... en_080.jpg

In that picture is a M3 class Heavy Fighter in the foreground and a M2 Battleship behind and below. Further in the back ground is a space station, along with a planet and moon.

Here is another good shot:

http://www.egosoft.com/games/x3/screens ... en_062.jpg

In this one you have the same M3 Heavy Fighter sitting above a Solar Array that is attached to a Solar Power Plant along with other arrays. To give you more of a head ach, they claim that this is only the "Medium" sized SPP.

Tha game is set to come out between now and the end of the year, they are keeping a tight lip about when but they assure people it is coming out.

I think I will just wait for this to come out instead of trying to get X2 working. I only paid $10.00 for X2 and it only has twenty minutes of play on it. Anyone want/ need it?

If you asked me a couple of months ago I would have taken it. Since then I got my own copy off of Ebay for the same price.

Here is how the cockpit view looks:

So far they have confirmed that there is a new Race added into the mix, and that the Pirates how more power. There are Pirate Capital ships now. You can have a Head Quarters. Stations can be integrated togething in special structures, thus redefining the meaning of loop in the game.

Go to http://www.enlight.com/x3/ and click on media then videos. The three clips are from the original planned expansion but show you how they decided to combine stations.

If you want to see two trailers then follow this link: http://www.x3-reunion.com/download/x3/videos_en.php
Greg Kingston: Although it isn't finalized yet, there will be a significant number of new sectors added to the universe, and both these and existing sectors will differ strongly from previously. Sectors will be more three-dimensional and be of varying sizes.

There will be more emphasis on life within the universe as well; for example, 'home' sectors will tend to be safer than the borders. I can't reveal too much without spoiling the game, but the new pirate faction, the Yaki will get its own space now.

Here is a picture to really get the scale of things, there is a person in a space suit at the engines of the battle ship class vessel:

To further expand the perspective, those engines belong to this ship:

Hmm, since that happend wail the Xmen forum was down I never posted it here. But I did in the other thread I started on the THZ forum.

http://www.thzclan.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3245

I currently am working on trying to get my parents to buy it for me this Christmas. I did find it on gogamer.com for $35. It is tempting but I have to watch my money because I am not making as much as I hoped to pay for the third quarter of school.

As for conquring the galaxy, sadly to say X3 doesn't have multiplayer so we would be conquring our own versions of the galaxy. I am currently working on that in X2. They are working on Xonline which, for a fair price, I would gladdly pay a monthly fee to help conqure the universe with friends.

Sounds like Eve online is where it's at for the pay-to-play side of things. At least, from Bug's description.

There has never been multiplayer in any X game to date.

If I remember correctly Eve online charges more than Planetside per month. I ahve also heard that some players are destroying new comers so they don't become a threat to them.

Yeah you would have to start in an area where the prior gamers are not allowed ot go, similar to the training sector in CoH... or imediately latch on to a well known group from the start.

From what I understand, newbies can work in the Empire interior, and then the experienced players can get a nice bonus for hunting down the pirates if they come in that far. :)

Depending on initial price, I may get it when it comes out.

Should I get a joystick for ship control? The keyboard seems clunky.

I am seeing it online for $40 such as at this site:
http://www.ebgames.com/ebx/product/258814.asp

Personally I would get a joystick. I use a Sidewinder and can't play any flying game with out a joystick or else I crash too easilly.

Yeah, a joystick is a must for most of these, IMHO. Freelancer was designed for a mouse, but that's the only one I know.
