It's for that reason, Gambit, that I am really starting to hate commercials for games.

Arg, I was hoping for it to be a little sooner but I guess waiting 8 more months shouldn't hurt as we have already waited over 3 years. One bad thing is that the game comes out just before I return to college for my last Quarter for my BS in ME. I hope I can balance building a space race and my classes.

I've now read about 3 previews today (this morning). I can't remember which one had it, but in one of them they asked the marketing people what they are going to do in Spores future, such as expansions and so forth. The response was priceless, as they said "we don't know" because they can't simply release expansion packs of more content as the user creates that. All they can do is add more to the editors and make new editors to create something else thats not in the game.

The graphics are beautiful and they have made it so the player can start in any of the stages. But if you play from beginning to end you will earn rewards and medals that can be displayed on your Spore page and can be linked to other websites. They took hints from social sites like Facebook and Myspace so that the people can link their creations to sites they are already connected to others in.

Can't wait for the game as I can see playing it just as much or more than I play the X-series of games. Hell, I probably could loose myself in the game. It would be cool to have it on my laptop when I go to Belgium to help my brothers family move back and show off my creations to my nephew (currently 1 year old) and have him make something in the game.

Juicy details on Spore's content sharing and Sporepedia. This looks really amazing.

One thing that I liked:
Any game content item can be displayed on a "Spore card" which is a 30k jpg image. But the actual item is in there, embedded in the image, so you can import the real deal just by showing the picture to your game.

If it's an April Fool's joke it is a pretty weak sell, IMO. Probably a last-minute idea kind of thing.

I do think it'd be interesting what they could do with the Sporepedia technology as applied to dating. Scary. :)

Creature Creator is available for purchase, or you can download the trial version:

I'm downloading the trial now. Probably won't purchase (no GAME yet, duh...).

Anyone happen to notice the Nintendo DS and Mobile versions of Spore? I have a DS, but don't game on my phone ever, but it'd be interesting to see how the gameplay translates from the PC to a handheld device. It would be neat to see if they could interface the DS versions of the game with the PC versions.. The DS has built in wi-fi, so I don't see how it's be all that difficult...

They said that the different versions of Spore will not interface with each other as they are built from completely different platforms and each is concentrated on a different aspect of the game. For the DS version they built up the creature phase more and may have cut out or greatly reduced the space phase. The mobile version is even more restricted than that but I don't know much about it. So only the PC and Mac versions can interact with each other and the rest are restricted to their own kind.
