When I went through all the posts in this thread I thought I was just talking to myself and did a good job of hogging it. Just so you know, I enjoy telling the story. Is there anything else you want to have me add to my updates? For instance when I first attacked the Xenon station in the first sector I cleared I accidently hit it with my wing, getting stuck, and was destroyed. I forget how big the ship is when I am flying it some times.

I have evidence that UFO's really do exist! Below is a blown up view of the reticle where you see my target moving left and the UFO to the right:

Image

Also here is a screenshot of part of my charcters profile as of just before I quit, note that the ship that is under attack is my Osprey that I let play in the sector:

I have begun gathering the weapons and shields to arm a battleship (M2 class ship). I had heard that the weapons cost 2 million a piece but I thought they were over stating it until now. I started the buying spree with about 50 million credits. Part of it went to 3 new stations (2 wheat farms and 1 ore mine). To give you an idea, I need 18 weapons with estimated prices of:

9 GPPC's (Found 4) at 2.09 million a piece
6 BPPC's (Found 4) at 1.09 million a piece
3 APPC's (Found 1) at 0.9 million a piece

I now only have about 25 million credits and the Titan costs about 65 million. Once I get the Titan and max it out, I will then continue on the story line and hopefully finish it before X3 comes out next week. I don't know when I will get X3 but I will get it with in a year. Hope my system can do it justice.

Wildchild, just get X3 and talk about your adventures playing it while I am stuck in X2 and its old graphics.

*EDIT*
I forgot to say that I have also wiped out the Xenon in all sectors except 6 SPP which I have found to drop Energy cells when destroyed so I will destroy them when I need Jump Drive Energy.

Now I have my eyes set on Anarchy Base and clearing that sector of Squash mines once I get the Titan. I have a request for you all. I would like suggestions for a what I should name my new ship instead of doing what I have been doing with all of my ships which is to take it from "Your Argon Titan" to "Titan1." Any and all suggestions are welcomed the one that sounds the most fitting will be given to the new ship when I get it. (Trying to get audience participation)

On another note, I had heard that ships show wear and tear in this game. It wasn't until now that I finally had noticed the defects forming on my Osprey from all the battles. The engine nozzles appear to be corroding and brown spots have formed on the haul in a couple of places. My once shining silver ship is starting to look like a rusty bucket. I will try to set up a good shot showing off the details, just looked at what I have and they don’t have enough light to in the right places to show off all of the discolorations.

You could call the M2 the "Eliminator" and paint it up to look like ZZTop's wheels. :)

The Titan could be easily named for your fave trucking/shipping company, or alternately your fave self-storage facility.

Maybe "Whale Shark" would fit if you bought the Boron model. :)

After playing a couple of hours this morning I have found a major, and I mean major, problem. The enemy respawns after being defeated but new ships can only be made at a shipyard. Since the first Xenon sector I destroyed had the only shipyard, my conquest of the others was easy. Now that the shipyard has spawned, there is an unending flow of Xenon ships trying to reach their sectors that are empty. The problem is that there are both Capital ships and fighter in the constant chain gang. They have disrupted the economy in every sector they pass through which has had the added effect on bringing surrounding sectors to a halt. I had watched as one of the defending M2's were destroyed as they intercepted 2 Xenon K's (M2) and a Xenon J (M1). It will be a while before another defender gets there to take his place.

I have tried to help the defenders but only to have my M6 destroyed when 4 Xenon K's engaged me. I then went to the prior save and got the hell out of dodge in hopes that I can find some way to earn the 40 million credits I need to buy the Titan, then several million more for upgrades and getting the last 7 cannons for it. I could go back and keep on fighting and get paid for destroying the enemy, but only in small amounts with the biggest being 10 thousand for a Xenon K. But for everyone ship destroyed there will be another sent out in its place.

On the bright side I have started a SPP in Kingdom End and a second one in Red Light. I now have 11 station and 39 ships under my command. The Khaak have not been much of a problem compared to my first game. I have noticed some of my UT's and ST's have some hull damage but I don't remember ever getting a message about them under attack, and I know most of them have not found a Hull eating nebula.

I don't think calling the Titan "Schneider" would be very good, maybe I can call my Osprey that since it’s basically an over sized freighter. I was thinking that there would be suggestions such as “Trout Slapper,” “Final Call,” “Kan Kill Khaak,” Space Rage,” ect.

Re: Unexepected convoy
Bwahahhahhaaaa! ROFLOL! I will definitely remember that.
Possible solution might be to permanently park some heavies patrolling the shipyard sector, so they'll keep destroying the shipyard.

Re: Ship names
Your ships, your call. But having preconceived ideas about the suggestions you ask for seems a little naive. If you want only certain suggestions, why ask for others? If you want us to choose from a list, then make it multiple choice. :) Point being, we're all going to have a little different perspective on things. I myself would have different ideas on a different day. Choose what you like, of course! Viva la difference!

Re: Xenon Convoy
at this time I have given up on trying to stop them and have instead spent my time saving my UT's that have become trapped in stations along their path. Once I have the Titan I will try to attack the shipyard again to stop them, but right now there are too many ships spawning there.

Re: Ship Names
Those names came out of thin air. The first one I thought someone would have made as a joke based on the Xmen's use of the trout. The second one was another joke based off the idea of a train engineer giving the final call to board but in this case the passengers would be the enemy lining up to die. The third was yet again a joke to give KKK a new definition. The last one was a more serious. The reason I ask is because I am getting tired of reusing the same names from all of my games, such as "Lazerus," "TimberWolf," "NutzholzWolf," "Leonov," "Hal 3000," "Heywood" ect. (you probably notice several of these comes from '2001: A Space Odyssey' and the books that follow it which I am currently rereading for fun) A thought just accured, I could call it "Lords of Steel" and the next M2 could be "Xmen" followed by "Allied Tribal Forces" for a carrie.

New: Khaak problems
They are getting stronger. They launched a major attack on Ringo Moon where most of my transports travel. I lost a young UT that was in the area. I am currently in the process of building a replacement. When I got word of the attack I was docked at a space station a good ways away from my Osprey. I sent it to defend the sector but then realized it didn't have the power to jump back and you can't transfer cargo unless you are in one of the ships. So I spent an hour flying to it. During which I spent moving ships that have been sitting in stations for a long time towards Argon Prime. Some were as far as the Xenon sectors.

Correction: Stations
I said above that I had 11 stations but in fact I have only 9. The reason why I thought I had more was because I had planned to build more, scouted out locations and what resources were needed, in Ringo Moon but ended up not doing it to save up for the Titan.

New: Captures
Currently I have about 9 Xenon ships sitting in a Split Trading station waiting to be transported to a shipyard to be sold. But with the constant movement of Xenon forces in the sector I have to leave them there untill I can stop the Xenon long enough for those badly damaged ships to get out of there. I have reached the Rank of "Ace of Aces 1st Grade" which is the third highest combat rank in the game. It is also this that allows me to capture much better than before. I believe that I can start capturing Xenon capital ships, and I have been trying to capture on of those K's (M2) which is the fasted capital ship in the game.

New: Sector Defence
If the Khaak do any more attacks like the one in Ringo Moon I will have to start buying more M6's to defend sectors that I travel in the most. I am hoping this does not happen until after I get the Titan, which will allow me to use Osprey1 to defend a sector. From there I can use the Titan for Assasination Missions and Xenon Invasion Missions to quickly build up money to buy new M6's. Then I will run into the problem of equiping them, there are only so many weapon factories and their output are quit slow. Currently I am still looking for 3 GPPC's to finish off the armaments for the Titan when I get it.

Not if I use the Jump Drive to get to the next gate they have to get too. Once at the gate I can just blockaid and destroy them with my many turrets. You also forget the Titan can carry 4 fighters so I can launch in one of those to attack the target and either wait for the Titan to catch up or try to take them out on my own.

Titan stats: http://x2source.com/index.php?act=ships ... on%20Titan

Yes the Titan is slow but with a Jump drive that does not really matter as long as I don't have to chace them through the sector, which I could do batter in a fighter.

*EDIT*
As of last night I was short 12 million credits and 1 GPPC. I will still need to raise extra funds to upgrade Engines, Rudder, and Cargo Hold. I have already brought all of my fighters to Argon Prime and have most equiped with Transporters and Jump Drives, one of those ships will loose theirs to the Titan. I do have one problem, most of the equipment for the Titan are sitting in the cargo hold of a UT who no longer has a jump drive (I took it off of it because mine was destroyed) on the far side of the Universe and even if it did there is so little space left in its hold it couldn't make a decent jump. I will have to take the Titan to it to bet equiped then use the UT to resupply with energy cells then send it on its way.

I did a suicide mission to destroy the Xenon Shipyard because their fleet has destroyed 1 UT and damaged 3 others. My UT's are going there because of the high demand for good as a result of the Xenon destroying almost all of the frieghters. I am currently using my Nova again. I have captured a Khaak M3 and sold its weapon for about 2 million but the ship sold for less than a third of a million. I am capturing Pirate ships with about 80% hull left which bring in good money, some times they have equipment left which either go towards rearming other captures or replacing lost equipment of other ships. The Khaak have begun to attack more often and in larger numbers. I have left my Osprey in Ringo Moon to safe guard the many transports that travel there. The Osprey has enough energy to jump 3 sectors away which covers all but one of my stations.

*Second EDIT*
The sectors outlined in blue are where I have my stations. The yellow sectors on the right end of the Universe are not explored in my current game but I know them from my first run. The bright red squares are Xenon sectors which I had cleared out. Every sector between them are ablaze in fights from new forces moving to those empty sectors. The dark red squares are pirate sectors which are good places to capture pirate ships and Khaak ships. Curently I am stuck without a Jump drive in the Light Blue squares in the upper center. An enemy ship rammed me destroying the Jump Drive, again.

I am proud to announce a new arrival (2:30am) to the TimberWolf fleet: Lords of Steel. Below is a picture of it on its maiden flight in Thyn's Abyss where it got its chance to try out its weapons (which I still need to find one last GPPC) on a Xenon J (M1). Before I had saved and quit the game for the night (3:00am), Lords of Steel had destroyed over 30 Xenon fighters (M5/M4/M3), 5 Xenon K's (M2), and 4 Xenon J's (M1). Also the ship is currently housing 2 fighters, a Parinid Perseus (M3) I had captured and a Teladi Buzzard (M4) I use to fly in, which both need to be refurbished since the Perseus doesn't have the proper weapons and the Buzzard doesn't have the proper hardware. Once I get the chance I will also be housing my Argon Nove (M3) which is currently setup for capturing ships. I have also progressed in the story to the point I was in my first game. I haven't recieved the gift for saving the AP Gunner yet but I have read that it is random to give it or not then where it is placed if given.

Here is a view of Lords of Steel from my space suit as I head over to it for the first time:

Here is a picture of the shakedown cruise in Ore Belt, some Khaak came out to greet it and politely ask not to destroy their base, also if you look close enough you can see small figures of my two fighters docked on the bottom of the ship:

To give you an idea of what the Titan class ship can do compared to the Osprey I was flying, here is a comparison:

# Turrets:
Titan - 6
Osprey - 3

# Weapons:
Titan - 19
Osprey - 6

Player controlled weapons (ie from bridge):
Titan - 0
Osprey - 2

# 125 MW Shields:
Titan - 5
Osprey - 3

They both have about the same speed but there is one thing the Titan is horrible at, which I found out the hard way. Because the Titan class ships have so many guns you have to let the AI control them to destroy the enemy or else you will only be using one turret and not moving the ship. The PPC's that are equipped on Lords of Steel have such a large range compared to any other weapon that if a shot is fired it will still be traveling that direction for 40 seconds unlike most shots that stop in under 20 seconds.

Example: I just completed a Xenon invasion mission last night that I had started Friday night. I would have been done sooner but I had to restart many times because I kept angering the locals. I go into the battle with guns blazing, destroying the enemy fighters 2 or 3 at a time. But for every shot that hit one of the enemy there was another 20 or 30 floating around that missed. The local defenders would fly into those shots and yell at me (for their stupidity). After so many shots they would turn red on me and attack. Depending on whom it was it may have other actions such as stations in the area turning red against you.

So I decided to try and minimize my turret fire by using the 'attack my target' command on them. At first it seemed to work, only the turrets facing my current target fired. I also kept away from the main action where you can't move without hitting someone. So about an hour into the mission with no problems and then I get a warning from some Argon ship telling not to do that again. I can't find where the ship is nor could I stop the rounds already fired in that direction (think of AA fire from WW2 where you see streaks of light flying all over the place). The next thing I hear is "your going to get it now" and then a moment later "AAAAAHHHH" from him dieing to my turrets. Then shortly later another Argon says he is going to kill me and this time it is the sector patrol. Geez, I am trying to kill a target wouldn't you think about staying out of the line of fire from a ship over 10 times your size?

I ended up destroying the sector patrol (which were two M6 class ships), the Teladi M2 (who nearly drained my own shields by friendly fire earlier), and a single Argon fighter all because friendly fire hit them too much. I was then able to complete the mission destroying 79 Xenon ships. Some of which I had done when I jumped into one of my fighters to do some hunting. In the end the mission was a great victory and a huge boost to my wallet, netting me about 50 million credits to add to the 5 million I had already earned. Can you say 'time to buy another big ship and expand my empire.' (end example)

I have brought the Lords of Steel to the point where it shields began to fail but no hull damage has been inflicted. I have leaned that trying to take on 2 Xenon capital ships at the same time isn't the smart thing to do, or having more than 2 take an interest in you (I had to run by using the jump drive since they could move a lot faster than me). The Lords of Steel is doing awesome in assassination missions. I basically jump to the gate in front of the target and slowly fly towards them. Once in range my turrets engage all of the targets, destroying the fighter escort quickly and destroying the person in question shortly afterwards. The rest are destroyed in due time.

I am looking into buying a TL class ship now. Here is a link to the one I am looking at: http://argonopedia.ppcis.org/ship.php?ship=60

So I open to you what to name it or to leave the name. I have already decided to start naming my M6's, the first Osprey in now called "TW's Shield" and I will probably name the second one "Gambits Edge" if I can figure out if I want another Osprey or try another M6 class ship. The TL can 12 ships on board, a huge amount of cargo which also allows it to carry space stations. The reason I am looking to buying this is because the AI's TLs are slow (takes over 15 minutes to pass through a sector compared to less than 10 if it was fully upgraded). I can also equip it with a jump drive so it can go from one side of the universe to the other side in seconds. Also it can be used as a re-supply ship for my fleet since TS's (trade ships) can dock at it and then it can transport those to where the fleet is and then beam the cargo over. It can also be used to pick up TS's in one sector, the hardware to upgrade them in another, take them to another to get all the software, then to where they will be working without having to wait hours for them to move on their own to those places.

Current naming plan for the next ship in that class:
M1 - "Allied Tribal Forces" will be the Teladi Condor
M2 - "Xmen" will be the Split Python
M6 - "Gambits Edge" could be the Split Dragon or Teladi Osprey
TL - ? will be the Argon Mammoth

Once I have expanded my empire to cover the core Argon, Boron, Paranid, Teladi, and Split sectors then I will continue with the plot. This should take me a long time seeing that I will need to supply more own defense in most of those 51 sectors that I don't already have a presence in. Yes, I said 51 sectors to build in before I continue on the plot, which is roughly half of the universe. I will probably have to station Lords of Steel as sector patrol in Ore belt when I start building there because of the Khaak attacks, but I will replace it with 2 or 3 M6's when I get the chance.

Only the M0 class is larger than the M1 that he's got there. (Well, aside from the TLs which are used to haul stations around.) The M1 are part carrier, part battleship, but the exact configuration differs by race.

I just got done playing a little bit and captured a Khaak M3 fighter. Granted this isn't the first one but it was in near perfect condition hull wise so I kept it and fixed it up. I have, in total, captured 5 KM3 and 3 had weapons but I sold the first two because I needed the money for the Titan. Now I am hunting the Khaak and capturing many in hopes of getting more of their weapons to equip my fighter. I have also tested it out on the local pirates and found that even with one weapon it is more than enough for any pirate. The Pirate Ship transports go down in 2 full shots (from full energy to no energy) or in 3 strafing runs. I have also captured 3 out of 5 pirate ships I attacked in it. They appear to be more willing to abandon ship now.

Here is a pic of Lords of Steel with 4 Khaak ships on it, one you cant see between the engines on the bottom:

Image

Here is a pic of my new fighter getting ready to head off and get some equipment and repairs:

Image

It is starting to get harder and harder to stop playing because I keep finding new things to do or getting myself into something new that really excites me such as having this KM3 and wanting to get it two more weapons! Damn, I may need to go to X2 anonymous.

*EDIT*
Gambit, are you still playing this or did you start playing another game? I have to wonder how your empire is doing and what things you have learned in the game.

I also went and gave the Pirates Anarchy Base a visit. Sadly they did not like my presence and I was mad about all the squash mines I kept finding so I destroyed it. I get more of a challenge from the regular Pirate Bases with their dozen or so fighters. It was after that that I went to the sector to the south and picked up those 4 Khaak ships, 3 M3's and 1 M5.

I have my Perseus and Buzzard all geared up for fighting now, but neither have trade system extension yet which is nothing major since I am not in them that much. My Nova is slower than the Lords of Steel (M2) so the Khaak M3, which is faster than the Lords of Steel, will become my primary battle ship. I am also trying to bring my UT's all back online. Several had become stuck in an area due to lack of E-cells. Some of them have been sitting there long enough for E-cells to become available again, others I have had to turn into SE's for a while to get the area built up. Then there are those replacements from the ones I lost to the Xenon march. They are all but ready to become UT's, they are lacking the shields needed to activate the UT system and I don't really feel like baby sitting them at the moment to get them the shields. I also still haven't gotten the last GPPC for Lords of Steel, so it is still running around with 18 out of 19 guns. But at least it has 4 out of 4 fighters stationed at it. I haven't had the need to deploy them for defense or attack yet, but I may just take them as an attack wing the next time I play.

I am currently debating if I should build factory loops to supply me with weapons and shields to equip M6’s with that will become sector defenders. This will allow me to just buy the unit, equip it with the needed software then either have it meet up with the TL or a TS to receive all the hardware. It was a pain in the butt to equip my first M6 and M2. But currently I have about 56 million and it costs about 50 million for a TL, but still need to buy shields and weapons for it. Once it is setup then I can quickly start putting together stations and loops from it instead of having to rely on the AI’s TLs that move like snails. Also some of the stations I will need are from races other than Argon and Boron but I would like to have them in Argon space for the time being.

*EDIT 2*
I am starting to learn the limitations of the Titan.

1. Don't let more than one enemy capital ship target you at the same time, they will drain your shields faster than you can destroy them. Example: last night I was blockaiding the Xenon from passing through Thys Abyss when 3 Xenon J's (M1) came in and approached me at the same time from three different angles. By the time I noticed I wasn't going to kill the first one quickly enough my shields were almost gone and systems on my ship started to be destroyed. Needless to say I died.

2. Don't let too many missile carrying fighters with trigger happy AI around you. Example: I was attacking a Xenon sector and had just destroyed several Xenon J's (M1) but their fighters were not dieing as fast I had hoped. The constant pounding of their gun fire prevented my shields from recharging and the constant pounding from their missiles kept draining my shields. I ended up jumping out of the Titan and into my Perseus with its 3 BPSG's and wipping the fighters out of the sector to save my ship.

3. Don't sit still and use the strafe drive without paying attention to how far you have moved. Example: I was blockaiding the Xenon convoy through Thys Abyss and had been using the strafe drive to avoid being hit from Capital ship fire and to get myself into a better firing possition to get most of my guns shooting them. I had unknowingly moved a distance equal to a quarter of the width of the sector and bumped into a station. The station quickly launched its fighters, turned red, and called on the Sector Patrol for help. I quickly noticed that several guns were destroyed along with a quarter of my internal systems. Time to load from last save.

You may have noticed that most my action has been taking place in Thys Abyss. This is due to the fact that the Xenon ship yard is located next door and that the three Xenon sectors up north are emptry of ships, but some station have returned. This means tere is a constant flow of enemies through this sector. This also allows me to get paid for every unit I destroy by the Split empire, and if any unit is captured then they only have to fly to a near by station for cover or the next system up to be sold. I have made about a million credits sitting still in my Titan destroying everything that came in my firing range, only strafing to avoid fire from Xenon K's (M2) and J's (M1).

My empire grows. I now have a TL to my name and used it to bring Plankton farms to Argon Prime. It is the fastest ship I have besides my Discoverer. Here are my current stats:

11 Stations
53 Ships (some are captures heading to be sold)
Economic rank of Magnate (8 spots below the highest)
Combat Rank Combat Ace 2nd Grade (6 spots below the highest)

I have not moved into any new sectors yet but I have found a very useful way of blockading a Xenon sector, but it requires that I stay there constantly. I jumped into the Xenon sector next to Thyns Abyss and parked my Titan in the gate with its turrets set to attack any enemy. I then jumped into my Perseus and took out the closest Xenon Capital ships, which were both J's and very hard to kill. I then returned to my ship after some attacks on the fighters trying to kill me, capturing 5. Once back to my Titan I just sat there and let the guns do all the work. Out of about 100 ships that tried to pass me, only 3 got through. My combat rank was only about 2% for the next rank when I came in and when I saved and quite it was 10% after one hour of sitting there. I can't turn SETA on or else my ship can't shoot correctly.

Also the Khaak have begun to attack in larger numbers. I have lost 3 ships to them. I went into Ore Belt and was constantly creamed by their ships in the nebula where you can't detect them until they start shooting you. I had captured one of the M4's but lost it when another wave came in, the worst part was it had all of its weapons which meant I could have fully armed my Khaak M3. When I finally left Ore Belt all of my fighters needed hull repairs and no captured ships. I ended up having to rely on my Titan for fire support to keep my back covered but that caused a lot of ships that turned blue to be destroyed by extra fire. The next time I go in there I will grab my Osprey which I can control its turrets a lot better than the ones on the Titan.

I am currently making between 1.5 and 3 million credits an hour from my stations and UT's. I will be buying M6's on a regular basis soon because of the increasing Khaak strength. I am having to jump back to help ships to often, which is getting annoying and costly because of the energy I use up which is taken from the local economy. I need to build more SPP's around the universe because of my constant jumping. For every energy cell I use that is one less energy cell to produce something useful to keep the economy going. Theoretically if I jump enough time I could bring the entire universe to a stand still. But that would take millions of energy cells to waste to do that.

I am currently looking into setting up an open energy look in Argon Prime or Ringo Moon. Because I have 8 energy draining factories in an area that started with an energy shortage I need to produce more power. I already have two SPP's in Red Light which are having a hard time keeping up with demand. Also several of my secondary and primary resource factories are full because the factories that buy from them don't have enough energy to continue production. I am also looking into bring Stott Mixeries into Argon Prime or Herron's Nebula. Herron's Nebula has a hull eating nebula so I probably won't build there. I could build in Cloudbase Northwest and set the stations to buy and sell in a 2 or 3 sector radius. But I will have to station M6's in Three Worlds, Power Circle, Antigone Memorial, Coudbase Northwest, Herron's Nebula, The Hole, The Wall, Ringo Moon, Cloudbase Southwest, Rolk's Drift, and maybe even Atreus' Clouds. So 11 new M6's, don't think the AI produce enough 125 MW shields or GHEPT's to equip them all in one week. So I guess I should make a weapon loop to supply my new ships when I get them.

To help keep costs down I could try using the Argon Centaur, which in my opinion is one of the weakest M6’s in the game but I could probably by two for every sector, one protecting the other, and not loose any. So I may try that route for most Argon Sectors where there aren’t that many attacks but any sector near Ore Belt will have to have Osprey’s or M2’s. I will first find a Xenon Invasion mission to get many millions of credits and use them to start the next wave of expansions and defense upgrades. Current line of thought would make the home Argon Sectors and Maybe even the home Boron Sectors populated by my stations by the end of the month if I keep playing the same amount of time each weekend. Ore Belt will be the most costly part of it all because of the huge number of Khaak ships that spawn there. Currently Presidents End is empty, due to story events, so I will build my entire weapon and shield loops there. It will also make a nice staging ground for expansion into the Pirate sectors. So I have 17 sectors to go to get my goal along with another 10 sectors to put defenses in for my transports that will be doing business in them.

/me thinks that controlling about 32 sectors is a huge task, let alone expanding even further to almost 130 sectors including the Xenon sectors.

/me also considering destroying all the SPP's in the game to corner the market and get even more money faster, but then they couldn't be set to sell at max or it would cause my other factories to not make as much profit.
