Need My Docs from NTFS drive

So I got a new computer at work and got everything setup sweet when I got some major crashes and driver problems when installing a piece of software. If you can't get it then send it to me and I will hook it up to our diag machine and run some recovery stuff on it. I bet I can get it back. Thanks Ice, not sure the bosses want to go through that much trouble. The drive is a SATA Seagate Barracuda 120GB that I got for $100, the one I replaced it with was a SATA Seagate Barracuda 160GB for $100. Need more information here, Gryph.<br><br>Was the drive or the folders encrypted, or were they simply regular NTFS folders that are owned by the admin (or any other) account from the previous install of Windows?<br><br>If the former, you'll need to do some googling on using the recovery feature of the install CD to unlock the encryption. This is fairly hefty voodoo to attempt--I'll see if I can find you some links. This situation, combined with my previous employer's complete lack of good equipment and clean power, was the main reason I warned them off of encrypting drives or folders. It's hell to get info out of one, though it can be done.<br><br>If the latter case (regular folders), you <!--EZCODE ITALIC START--><em>should</em><!--EZCODE ITALIC END--> be able to toss the drive in your current machine, log on as Administrator (not <!--EZCODE ITALIC START--><em>an</em><!--EZCODE ITALIC END--> administrator account, <!--EZCODE BOLD START--><strong>THE</strong><!--EZCODE BOLD END--> Administrator account), and then take ownership of the entire drive. If you're using XP, you'll have to turn off simple file sharing so you can get at the permissions panel for the drive. Taking ownership of an entire drive recursively is going to take a good long while, too--I suggest starting up the process and doing something else on one of your other machines, checking back every few minutes to make sure it isn't hung up on some file. <p></p><i></i>
