Time for a new computer

Post by XMEN Diamond Katana »

Hello. How have all of you been? I know I don't pop in here much, and I apologize, but I've been quite busy with life.

I've been out of the hardware loop for years and I need help building a new computer. I will need pretty much everything except a case, since I can scrap my old one. My budget is around $1000. Any specific brands or components that you guys would recommend?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Vip

I'll almost always check with AnandTech for recommendations. I've been out of the loop for a while myself; my current rig is three years old. :) Here's a link to their system builder's guide:

You can still get a decent system with AMD components as well.

One thing to consider also is that an Intel Core2 Duo will likely give you the best performance, and you'll also likely find a lot of compatible parts out there.

Core2Duo is the speed champ, true, but I don't think it is in the price range he's looking at. As for "compatible parts" there are plenty of mobos in the AMD world. Anand's got recommendations for both Intel and AMD fanciers, and the performance data is available on the site as well.

Thanks, guys. I also spoke with a few friends of mine that are knowledgable in hardware and their recommendations are very similar to yours and the ones on AnandTech.

Hopefully I'll be ordering the parts in a week or two.

Thanks a lot,

You want this.

Well, at least I wouldn't mind having one. I'm thinking about going back to college, and think I might get a MacBook Pro.

I usually go with the recommendations of www.sharkyextreme.com

They have a recommended system for both low end and high end and I use it as a roadmap for my client systems.

However...I am sticking to ASUS motherboards from now on. I have the least amount of dead boards with them for some reason.

Wonders of Women.

Now theres a game that takes years to learn how to play.

Besides in the end your always a Noob and the rules constantly change.
Ask me, I live with 4 of them.
Theres only 3 males and the dog and I are both neutered.
