I currently have a gf3 ti200, i am thinking about getting me a gf4 ti4600. Is it worth my money to get one for the increase in fps it will give me? Or should i wait 3 or 4 more months for the price to drop? Here are my current specs.

Gigabyte GA-7VRXP
AMD 1900+ XP
Visiontek GF3-Ti200
256 Crucial 2700 DDR
Audigy Gamer
Windows XP

I currently average about 64 fps in tribes and get around 6900 3d marks. Tell me what you all think "Is it worth the $230.00?"

<img src ="http://web.acsalaska.net/~david.johns/M ... center>"We Rule the Earth and the Skys" Rogue Warriors

Wait,
I would put the money right now into more memory. I would add another 256meg. Right now you are sitting pretty.

The cost/benefit would not be that great.

Not much to upgrade there.

<embed align="left" src="http://www.thzclan.com/avatars/ezice.swf" menu="false" quality="high" bgcolor="#000000" width="217" height="166" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/dow ...

XMEN Iceman [DTM]
Founder and Leader of the Base Tribes XMEN Clan
Proud member of the Dragon Talon Mercenaries teamplayers Guild
Citizen of New Fenecia

"You weren't much of a challenge" - T2 bot after killing Iceman

- click on avatar for links - no, not sausage links!

If you WERE to upgrade your video, skip the GF4 generation and go for the Radeon 9700 pro (about $330) or the as-yet-unreleased "nv 30" or whatever they decide to call it.

I've been doing the "every other generation" thing with my vid cards for a while and it seems to work well (and cost less). Probably will upgrade my GF2 to a GF4 just before the LAN.
XMEN member
Card-carrying DTM
OKL Fish-napper

Though a program be but three lines long,
someday it will have to be maintained.
- The Tao of Programming
Life is complex; it consists of real and imaginary parts.

Thanks Ice ! I took out my 256 2100 ddr chip out of my wifes pc and have been using it for the last several hrs. And i think ya are on to sumtin. Games seem to respond alot better with the 512. Perfect example is 1942, i liked the game but it seemed chunky alot of times. Since i added the chip it hasnt acted like that what so ever. And UT2003 Demo doesnt skip a beat. So i went ahead and ordered me a 256 Crucial chip a few minutes ago. Alot cheaper than $230.00. Only $84.00. My wife will love ya as well. Thanks again !

<img src ="http://web.acsalaska.net/~david.johns/M ... center>"We Rule the Earth and the Skys" Rogue Warriors

I agree. Win XP is the first Windows version that really takes advantage of extra memory. I won't run with anything less than 512 now. If I remember correctly Tribes likes at least 180meg on it's own, then add in the OS and any other programs like Teamspeak you run out of RAM and your computer has to cache more stuff on the hard drive. If you have 512 then pretty much everything is cached in the RAM and it is a WHOLE lot faster than the hard drive.

<embed align="left" src="http://www.thzclan.com/avatars/ezice.swf" menu="false" quality="high" bgcolor="#000000" width="217" height="166" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/dow ...

XMEN Iceman [DTM]
Founder and Leader of the Base Tribes XMEN Clan
Proud member of the Dragon Talon Mercenaries teamplayers Guild
Citizen of New Fenecia

"You weren't much of a challenge" - T2 bot after killing Iceman

- click on avatar for links - no, not sausage links!
