Windows XP Pro

Post by LoSTimberWolf »

I just got Windows XP Pro and plan on working on it all weekend to get it to a point where I can use it for school. Just wondering, is there anything about it I should be away of about it, such as versions of office that it supports and what games that are known not to work with it?
-LoS-TimberWolfvehicle specilist

"Don't Drink And Drive, Get High And Fly Home" said by Neckhole
"To Love A Woman Is To Know Heaven And Hell Personaly" Who Said This?

Locked by: LoSTimberWolf at: 12/25/01 3:15:23 am

It supports most versions of office, starting with Office 97.

Games: That one is a doozy. I would say that any game over 3 years old "may" have a problem with it. I have had only 2 games that did not work well with it. Total Annihilation and Star Wars Rogue 3D. They had problems with the implementation of DirectX sound in XP. Otherwise everything else rocks.

When you first start it up it will do an analysis of your hardware and software to determine if you will have any issues. Make note of those issues and after you complete the upgrade you will probably need to get online and download fixes or drivers to fix them. UNLESS!!! it is for your modem or Network card, stop the upgrade, download the patches for them, otherwise you will not be able to get on to download patches.

Good luck!

<embed align="left" src="http://www.thzclan.com/avatars/ezice.swf" menu="false" quality="high" bgcolor="#000000" width="217" height="166" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/dow ...

XMEN Iceman [DTM]
Founder and Leader of the Base Tribes XMEN Clan
Proud member of the Dragon Talon Mercenaries teamplayers Guild
Citizen of New Fenecia

"You weren't much of a challenge" - T2 bot after killing Iceman

- click on avatar for links - no, not sausage links!

I have spent all day working on it, and came around to the conclution that I sould have also bought the latest office software. For the most part my computer does not bomb anymore but when I try to acces a open burn CD to get information off it it locks up as it transfers information.
-LoS-TimberWolfvehicle specilist

"Don't Drink And Drive, Get High And Fly Home" said by Neckhole
"To Love A Woman Is To Know Heaven And Hell Personaly" Who Said This?

Locked by: LoSTimberWolf at: 12/25/01 3:15:23 am

There is an XP Pro issue with Burning you need to surf over to MSN update and check for it. I am using Roxio5 with XP PRO and have had no problems but I have the update. Also XP pro has a "run in win 95 mode" which I have used successfully to make most games that are "not compatible" with XP to work. Just right click on the .exe for the prog and hit the check box.

996
Cerberus of THZ*
XMEN
Dragon Talon Merc

<img src="http://www.thzclan.com/jester/minime.jp ...

Our problem with burning was the burner itself. We had to upgrade it to get it to work. The previous was a Creative and we got a Plextor and all is good.

Tribes Clan DB - List your Tribes1/2 Clan, Guild, Fansite, League, or Script site
SnookNet Web Design - My web building adventures
Dragon Talon Mercenaries - Online Gaming Guild
PlanetTribes - Sp3ci@l pr0jekts
