If anyone wants me to build them one for the LAN, I charge $75 for assembly, software loading, and testing. You supply the Operating System and any other software you want installed.

Oh, support after the sale is not free...My free time is valuable to me. Re: So what do you think about this system for Sir Diesalot
for one thing i would get a better board that has the new usb 2.0 and i would get the faster ram, atleast 2700. I would also get the full tower case with the window on the side. But if you are on a budget, that is the way to go, but if not, dont cheat yourself bro.

<img src ="http://web.acsalaska.net/~david.johns/M ... center>"We Rule the Earth and the Skys" Rogue Warriors

WOW....that is purdy awesome, and i (as others obviously do too) appreciate you using your free time to do the research to put this together. but as of now, i am on an extremely tight budget and due to the generous donations of at least one SoUP member i've got everything EXCEPT: a mobo, processor(+ compatible h/sink-fan). i do have some RAM, but i think it's PC133. and it's 128 megs in 4 sticks.... i think. if i can save up the money i'm thinking i'd like to get the more advanced DDR RAM (PC2700 if i can afford the RAM + mobo +CPU + h/sink + fan combo)and 256 would be good. but since i'm on such a tight budget i suppose i could just get a 128 stick, and buy another stick of it or two later when i can afford it. Another generous member you all probably know and love has offered me a h/sink fan combo that will work with the Athlon XP+ series CPUs, which is what i'm planning on getting. i had done some research on the cpu + mobo combos on pricewatch, and it looks like i can get what i want for under $150 unless i want new ram too. Suppose it's possible to get a new mobo w/ agp slot (of course), at least 4 or 5 pci slots, 3 PC2700 DDR RAM slots, an Athlon XP 1600+ (or around there), and one 128 MB stick of PC2700 DDR RAM for....ohhh..... less than $200? $225?... the sooner i'm playing the better.

i could settle for a mobo w/ 4 PC133 RAM slots if it's got an agp slot and comes w/ an Athlon XP 1600+ if the price is right.

*edit* ok, it looks like the PC2700 DDR 128MB sticks do come pretty cheap... like less than $40 and even down to less than $30 depending on your brand and website choice according to pricewatch....pricewatch also says that you can get a 256MB stick for about $54...hmmmmmmmm*/edit*

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub3.ezboard.com/usirdiesal0t.sh ... age=EN>Sir Diesal0t at: 9/5/02 10:07:22 am

I spent $260 today on Newegg to get the Athlon XP 2000+, MSI Kt3 Ultra mobo and 256Mb PC2700 DDR from Samsung.

Why Do I Always Die?!?!?!?!

Re: So what do you think about this system for Sir Diesalot
ok...so i'm most closely looking at getting the ECS K7S5A, the athlon XP 1600+ and a 256 MB of PC2100 RAM.. not sure from who yet... probably kingston or samsung. anyway...that will suck up all of my financial resources before the LAN. I have 2 cases, but neither will fit that mobo...so my question is...anybody got any ideas on making a case out of a cardboard box and just sticking everything together? otherwise trying to make a way to anchor the mobo to the case without actually being IN the case since there isn't enough room...and still be close enough for all the cables to reach what it needs to reach?... sounds kinda funny it's so stupid...but i'm really at a loss. i guess there's still a possibility i could get a case that would fit it, but it'd be good to have another plan if it doesn't fall through.

Who would be willing to help me assemble a whole computer as quick as possible once i get to the LAN? i know it would probably cut out of your game time, and i know that would suck. otherwise i should just maybe forget the whole schpeel and play on zoo's laptop he offered to let me play on while at the LAN. i'd really like to be able to play on my own system though and.... i'm scared of what might happen if i try to assemble it by myself.

I may have a case also available at the LAN. i did some calculating and i might have more money than i thought i would (maybe). i might not need a case afterall... but i'm still gonna need some technical support
