Floppy Drive Troubles

Post by RedSirus »

I've tried helping my parents with a computer problem they're having, but I can't seem to find the problem.

Basically, the computer accesses the A: drive before it tries anything. Opening Internet Explorer, changing taskbars, opening just about any window, sending email, recieving email, etc.
They're using WindowsXP and have Norton Antivirus running. At first I thought it might be Norton, but when I disabled it, the problems persisted. I'm lost. Oh, and it's been going on as long as they can remember (likely from first install, the computer's only a few months old). It Started with Win98SE, but they upgraded to XP-Pro since then.

Any ideas?

<img border="0" src="http://www.xmenclan.org/avatars/t2red.g ... >
RedSirus@

Dragon Talon Mercenary > <a href=http://server2.ezboard.com/bdragontalon ... >
DTM Community > <a href=http://pub18.ezboard.com/fdtmonlinecomm ... s>RedSirus' Reviews

Brainwashed Fishmonger > Forum ...

I'm guessing here, but some sort of file association or system file might be registered to the A: drive. How that would happen, I don't know.
XMEN member
Card-carrying DTM
OKL Fish-napper

Though a program be but three lines long,
someday it will have to be maintained.
- The Tao of Programming
Life is complex; it consists of real and imaginary parts.

That is also a symptom of MS Fastfind being on. It tries to index everything to speed up access. I will do some research on this for you. Will let you know.

Check this Red:
<a href="http://www.createwindow.com/wininfo/flo ...

And this:
<a href="http://www.computing.net/windowsme/wwwb ...

<embed align="left" src="http://www.thzclan.com/avatars/ezice.swf" menu="false" quality="high" bgcolor="#000000" width="217" height="166" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/dow ...

XMEN Iceman [DTM]
Founder and Leader of the Base Tribes XMEN Clan
Proud member of the Dragon Talon Mercenaries teamplayers Guild
Citizen of New Fenecia

"You weren't much of a challenge" - T2 bot after killing Iceman

- click on avatar for links - no, not sausage links!

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub3.ezboard.com/uxmeniceman.sho ... ge=EN>XMEN Iceman at: 8/30/02 1:48:52 pm
