First, did you "share" your drives. Otherwise they cannot be seen. Here is some good info on it: <a href="http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sha ...

Also here is a great guide on both: <a href="http://www.extremetech.com/article2/0,3 ...

Second, make sure they are both set to DHCP and that they both have "workgroup" in their workgroup name. "workgroup" is the standard name we use at home and at the LAN's.

Hope that helps.

<embed align="left" src="http://www.thzclan.com/avatars/ezice.swf" menu="false" quality="high" bgcolor="#000000" width="217" height="166" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/dow ...

XMEN Iceman [DTM]
Founder and Leader of the Base Tribes XMEN Clan
Proud member of the Dragon Talon Mercenaries teamplayers Guild
Citizen of New Fenecia

"You weren't much of a challenge" - T2 bot after killing Iceman

- click on avatar for links - no, not sausage links!

Don't forget that you need the MS File and Print sharing service running, too.

Oh, and neither system should be plugged into the WAN side of your router.
XMEN member
Card-carrying DTM
OKL Fish-napper

Though a program be but three lines long,
someday it will have to be maintained.
- The Tao of Programming
Life is complex; it consists of real and imaginary parts.
Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub3.ezboard.com/uxmengambit.sho ... ge=EN>XMEN Gambit at: 8/2/02 6:26:06 am

I am pretty sure you have to have a Cable or DSL modem attached to this thing for you to file share. So I am going to go get a Hub today instead.

996
Cerberus of THZ*
XMEN
Dragon Talon Merc

<img src="http://www.thzclan.com/jester/minime.jp ... >Edited by: <a href=http://pub3.ezboard.com/uxmenashamandtm ... ge=EN>XMEN Ashaman DTM at: 7/18/02 11:16:26 am

The reason I was so admant is that the Linksys offers some distinct advantages over a standard hub.

1. It has a firewall to protect you from hackers.

2. It is a switched "hub" aka Switch. The switch looks at the address of each packet and directs it to the correct destination instead of just broadcasting it to everyone on the network. Thus there is a slight speed advantage and less traffic on the network.

Anyway, I wish I were close to you. I would love to help you with this. Get Gryphon to come up and fix it for you.

<embed align="left" src="http://www.thzclan.com/avatars/ezice.swf" menu="false" quality="high" bgcolor="#000000" width="217" height="166" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/dow ...

XMEN Iceman [DTM]
Founder and Leader of the Base Tribes XMEN Clan
Proud member of the Dragon Talon Mercenaries teamplayers Guild
Citizen of New Fenecia

"You weren't much of a challenge" - T2 bot after killing Iceman

- click on avatar for links - no, not sausage links!

I have a Linksys Router, and mine works great, Jester. Check Ice's links, and follow the step by step stuff to get it working. It WILL work, it just takes some time. Also, go thru the manual that came with the Router, There may be some settings that are'nt right on it. I know when I first got mine, it took be 2 days to get it just right. Now, once it's setup, it's solid as a Rock. I've done numerous security scans from GRC.com and dslreports.com, and I passed with flying colors both times with my PC behind the Linksys Firewall.

Why Do I Always Die?!?!?!?!

If the router no workiee, then I'd bet money that the hub no workiee, too. They're really pretty simple devices, you just need to have your computers set up right. If you'd like an easy test, get a crossover cable and run it between the two computers.

DOH. If using the router, you can set your computers to get IP information automatically (DHCP). If you use a hub, you'll have to set up the IP stuff yourself. Now, if you've networked your machines before, using a hub or crossover, and have assigned them IP addresses, then it's possible that the router can't send them the proper info for the new network config.

XMEN member
Card-carrying DTM
OKL Fish-napper

Though a program be but three lines long,
someday it will have to be maintained.
- The Tao of Programming
Life is complex; it consists of real and imaginary parts.
Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub3.ezboard.com/uxmengambit.sho ... ge=EN>XMEN Gambit at: 8/2/02 11:50:49 am

Your problem is that you dont have all the protocals installed on you systems. I have the same problems here at home when I reload my system and set it up to use the hub. The installation does not install all the protocals that it needs so you have to install them manualy. I dont know exactly what you need but you can go to the linksys web site to find out in the FAQ section.
-LoS-TimberWolfvehicle specilist

"Don't Drink And Drive, Get High And Fly Home" said by Neckhole
"To Love A Woman Is To Know Heaven And Hell Personaly" Don't Recal Who Said This

I have successfully used a crossover cable to share my Inet (56k) connection with my second PC. The only thing I am not able to do is File Share.

996
Cerberus of THZ*
XMEN
Dragon Talon Merc

<img src="http://www.thzclan.com/jester/minime.jp ... >Edited by: <a href=http://pub3.ezboard.com/uxmenashamandtm ... ge=EN>XMEN Ashaman DTM at: 7/18/02 11:16:26 am

Cool, which OS you running?

The reason I ask is that under Win98 you have to go into the network settings and turn on File and Printer sharing.

On WinXP you have to LOAD it as a protocol/service.

<embed align="left" src="http://www.thzclan.com/avatars/ezice.swf" menu="false" quality="high" bgcolor="#000000" width="217" height="166" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/dow ...

XMEN Iceman [DTM]
Founder and Leader of the Base Tribes XMEN Clan
Proud member of the Dragon Talon Mercenaries teamplayers Guild
Citizen of New Fenecia

"You weren't much of a challenge" - T2 bot after killing Iceman

- click on avatar for links - no, not sausage links!

Click on Network connections, then select your Local Area and right-click, Properties, under
This connection uses the following items:
Make sure it says File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks. If not then click on the Install button, I am not sure if it was a Service or Protocol.
Once you do that then you can share your drives.
Also make sure in the same window that you have installed the Client for Microsoft Networks. Without that you definitely cannot see the other system.

Hope that helps.

<embed align="left" src="http://www.thzclan.com/avatars/ezice.swf" menu="false" quality="high" bgcolor="#000000" width="217" height="166" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/dow ...

XMEN Iceman [DTM]
Founder and Leader of the Base Tribes XMEN Clan
Proud member of the Dragon Talon Mercenaries teamplayers Guild
Citizen of New Fenecia

"You weren't much of a challenge" - T2 bot after killing Iceman

- click on avatar for links - no, not sausage links!
