HELP!!!!!!

Post by XMEN_Hammer »

Ive been trying for days to work out my network, to no avail. What I have is when I turn on my router it takes out channels 4+5 on my TV. I've done everything from moving the antenna outside (it was in the attic), to moving the amplifier from behind the tv to under the antenna. Its a amp and pre-amp system. Being that we live over 100 miles from the towers as a crow flies. I turn of the router everthings fine .(me scratches his head) I'm stumped guys any ideals????????<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /frown.gif ALT=":(">
Proud Member of the XMEN Clan
King of the HPB's

Do you have a Wireless Network in the house? I've never heard of an Ethernet Router taking out Broadcast TV channels like that..... Maybe you should stop watching TV?

LOL @ "can't happen"

Here's some theories and things to try.

The way to test if it's the wiring or the router would be to unplug all the network cables from the router, then do your test.

If your TV works fine, then plug the cables in one by one to see what effect it has on your TV signal. If it's all of the cables, then we have a problem, give me a call. If it's just one cable then you may need to re-run that line, via a different route or using a different type of cable.

If the router alone messes up your TV, then it's the router and you should be able to shield it. Use aluminum-foil wrapped around cardboard, a couple of layers should be enough. The shield will need to be between your router and the antenna, and probably the router and the TV as well. If the shielding doesn't do it, take the router around the house and try using different electrical circuits to see if it's something in the electric wiring.

Another thing to consider is that perhaps it's not the router messing with your TV, but the wireless internet transceiver you've got. Your little magic box may not be 'active' unless the inside wiring is connected to something - in this case the router. To test, plug a computer directly into the connection from your provider.

XMEN member
Card-carrying DTM
OKL Fish-napper

Though a program be but three lines long,
someday it will have to be maintained.
- The Tao of Programming
Here, let me deal you in...

The wireless company brought in the EXACT same model router, swapped it out for testing, no problem!
So we are going to see if we can swap it out for another new one. It is a D-Link DI-704.

<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)">

<EMBED align=leftsrc="http://www.thzclan.com/avatars/ezice.swf" menu=falsequality=high bgcolor=#000000 WIDTH=217 HEIGHT=166TYPE="application/x-shockwave-flash"PLUGINSPAGE="http://www.macromedia.com/shockwave/dow ... d>
XMEN Iceman [DTM]
Founder and Leader ofthe Base Tribes XMEN Clan
Proud member of the Dragon Talon Mercenariesteamplayers Guild
Citizen of New Fenecia

"You weren't much of a challenge" - T2 bot after killing Iceman

- click on avatarfor links - no, not sausage links!
