Refurbished Hardware
What do you folks think about buying something that has been refurbed? Think it would be worth the risk?
"Death is not the end."-Ravok

Re: Refurbished Hardware
I don't see there being much risk in buying refurbished hardware, as long as it was done by the manufacturer, and not some hack. You save money, and the hardware is brought up to factory specs and performance, and most times, they're just like new. I'd but it, whatever it is.

"Never, Never, Never Quit" -Winston Churchill

Re: Refurbished Hardware
As long as it has the same warranty as a "new" one, why not? Only thing is it may be more likely to fail, as it has already failed once. And if you have to pay shipping, thats another cost that is associated with the chance.

Other than that........ I dont see any difference
<img src="http://www.teamwidowmakers.com/Mega/Sig ...
<img src="http://miniprofile.xfire.com/MegaDeath7 ...

Re: Refurbished Hardware
The warranty on a refurb will almost always be shorter than that on a new item.

Often I actually PREFER a refurb to a new item, and not just because it's cheaper. A new product was made on an assembly line, possibly very automated. Perhaps someone at the end of the line does a brief quality check on it. Great. But with a refurb, they can't very well automate it. Someone took a look at it, fixed what was broken, and checked it out again. Looked at from that perspective, it may be that the refurb is actually less likely to fail and closer to spec than a new item.

This scenario is not always true, but I've not had any bad experiences with a refurb, and I do buy them. One example: my wife is using a monitor that I bought as a refurb in 1996, and it still works fine. It's beginning to show some symptoms of age, but nothing major. And it's been used almost every single day during that time.

XMEN member
Card-carrying DTM
OKL Fish-napper

Though a program be but three lines long, someday it will have to be maintained.
The Tao of Programming

Thanks much, I appreciate that.

There is a Radeon 9200 128MB refurb for $40.00 for sale at a place called Monarch Computers. Spending 100+ for a graphics card takes me out of budget, but I need a good one for the game.

I think it can do the job, and after GeekPro Gambit gave the thumbs up, I will most likely buy the card from em.

FREE SHIPPING, so Megadeath's one concern flies out the window...

"Death is not the end."-Ravok
