Well, I was hacking around on Desecration today (slow day at work) and ended up writing up a personnell bio of Ambush Bug. So, I thought I'd go ahead and post it, just to give ya an idea of how his commanding officers see him. I'll probably end up doing this for some of the other characters in the story as well, just for the heck of it.

Desecration is shaping up quite nicely by the way... couple of neat plot-devices got changed//cooked up, and I think they're gonna shock the daylights out of you. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)">

Anyhoo... here be the bio!

----

PERSONNEL FILES
CLASSIFIED: EYES-ONLY, FENECIA DEFENSE COMMAND STAFF, DTM COMMAND STAFF

**********************DO NOT REPLICATE**********************

Mercenary Profile
Warnom: “Ambush Bug”
Real Name: Undisclosed for security reasons
Height: 2.13 meters
Weight: 224/317 kilograms (no armor/armored)
Eyes: Left, purple; right, cybernetic
Skin: Carapace--olive green
DOB: 3/15/3876
Age: 65

==============
Description, History, and Evaluation, compiled by

==============

Bug (as he is commonly known among the mercs), stands seven feet tall when fully erect, not counting his antennae. He resembles a cross between a humanoid, an ant, and a praying mantis. Like the mantis, he has four legs and an elongated body. Both pairs of legs start at the joint between his abdomen and thorax, then diverge, giving him a very wide and deep stance. The legs are similar to ant legs—they are thin and multi-jointed, with various spikes and sharp ridges running the length. His thorax is shaped somewhat like a human torso, but thinner all around. His arms are jointed like a human’s, and he has hands with opposable thumbs. On the end of each digit is a retractable talon. Sprouting from just below his wrists are backwards-pointing forearm blades.

His history prior to joining the Dragon Talon Mercenaries is not fully known. We do know that he spent a great number of years avenging the death of his birth-mother at the hands of the Blood Eagle. We suspect that he was also a for-hire assassin due to various comments he has made over the last few years, though this has yet to be proven. He is extremely close with information regarding his past and his birthplace, and even more so regarding the various cybernetic systems in his body.

Those same cybernetics are perhaps the greatest mystery surrounding this merc. All medical and engineering analysis reports that his cybernetic equipment is almost three-quarters Cybrid in design and implementation. This has been confirmed by both various ideograms stamped into some of his parts as well as radiological dating of samples. The other quarter of his artificial parts are very recent in manufacture, as little as fifteen years ago in some cases. The sheer amount of both Cybrid and non-Cybrid implants absolutely mandates the need for an extensive surgical period to implant them, so we can assume that they were emplaced when he was much younger, and likely still at home. Wherever his home is, the thought of a third race with skills enough to create warriors like him is the stuff of generals’ nightmares. Also, one wonders how his race managed to deal with the Cybrids, and when the two species clashed.

While his past is a mystery, his service is not. Ambush has served with distinction since his application to the DTM. Specifically, he has lead several important deep-strike raids to great success, as well has helped increase the hand-to-hand fighting skills of most of our mercs. Another area in which he has excelled is espionage, and currently he is part of our ‘special advisory’ group which is responsible for evaluating data sent in by our spies.

He has refused every medal, award, and promotion we have offered.

Socially, he is not the best of our ranks… but that is to be expected. Though all of our mercs are used to seeing him about, not all of them have been able to readily socialize with him. Bug is commonly described as ‘cold’ by those who interact with him. This is not helped by his artificial speech module. Capt. RedSirus is his closest friend, and has accompanied him on almost all of his missions. The two are hard to separate. One social area that Bug excels at is battlefield camaraderie. While he may be cold and impersonal while off-duty, placing him out on the battlefield changes him. The chill melts away and he becomes both fierce and protective, going to great lengths to ensure the survival of everyone near him. No mercenary yet has refused to fight at his side once this became apparent. Why he changes like this is uncertain, and no amount of prodding or psychological evaluation has been able to discern the cause.

Our only concern about him is that keeping his presence a secret is nigh impossible. Though he stays near our mercenary bases for the most part, far away from any public or prying eyes, when he goes to battle it is inevitable that he will be seen by someone. Spectre has been careful to assign him to missions where recordings are unlikely to be taken of him, and so far, we have been lucky. Incontrovertible proof of the existence of an alien race would have the BioDerms, the Empire, and most of the Tribes vying to either use or destroy him. Personally, I think this is the primary reason for his reluctance to share information about his homeworld. Ambush has been very careful to destroy any evidence of himself left behind each mission as well.

We take a risk in having him within our ranks. But we are sworn to protect each other as part of our service, and he took the oath just like every last one of us. We will not abandon him, just as he has stayed true to our cause.

Member: DTM, XMEN
Professional Tank Driver
Card-carrying Base-Cracker
Ugly Son-Of-A-Gun

Bug's Tank Bumper Sticker:
"If you can read this, you're already street pizza."

I like it... When I recieved my DTM Membership, I wrote a bio similar to bugs' (Although the story as different, and I think I was Bug's pet Human.) But it was still fun to write. I should see if I can find it and post it here....

Why Do I always Die?!?!

Okay, it's not nearly as polished as AB's, but it is the original Text I wrote shortly after I became full DTM. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D">

The origins of Spinning Hat are relatively unknown. No one knows his true name or Homeworld. Even he doesn't know. One day he remembers waking up on Azul'Santos in a daze and unable to remember how he arrived there, or where he came from. Shortly after his awakening on Azul'Santos a creature known as Ambush Bug Brought him home as his "pet human" and requested that he be trained to fight alongside the XMEN against the smelly LoS and confudsed EnDless. Porsche agreed on the condition that Ambush Bug would stop calling the no named human his pet. reluctantly, he agreed, and asked what he could do besides weild the waepons of the tribals with skills that would rival a newbloods'. "Well, I can do this." He took an old Top Hat he found in one of Rudjelly's footlocker and began to spin it by the brim on his hand, and then he threw it at the fron forcefiled to the base. "He knocked down the forcefield with my hat!" Exclaimed RudeJelly as he excitedly ran to it like a dog to return the hat to it's master to see him do it again. "That was luck. I want you to see it done with this Salmon" snickered Iceman. he tried, and tried, and tried, but to no avail. But everytime he was handed the Hat,he broke the forcefield down with as little effort as breathing. "We'll call him Spinning Hat!" Declared Ravok as he ran from his corner of the room to join the group, then we hear the voice of Future Glue saying "I knew you didn't love me, you just wanted the nookie! I hate you!"

Why Do I always Die?!?!

I wrote a tale about Longshot when I went over to New Fenecia. He was an Interplanetary Archaeologist. Sort of a Indiana Jones of the day.

Also wrote a quick history of the XMEN's homeworld for the BEML.

Its fun to get specific about stuff and nail down exactly who you are and what you do in the Galaxy. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)">

[Ravok-99]
Proud Member of the THZ*
Proud Member of the XMEN
Proud to be a part of the Dragon Talon Mercenaries

AB, any chance that we can get a more detailed description of Bug's appearence, his armor, and his chat-ka?
<img src="http://www.rit.edu/~mbt1074/Angel%20Sig ... NO! IT MUST BE A SECRET! RAWWWR!

Errr. OK. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)">

His headshot is pretty much my avatar, save for the color of the eyes (purple instead of gold).

He's really a physical cross between an ant and a mantis and something from a 50s horror flick. Long, thin (3 inches across for arms, 4-6 inches for legs) limbs with microscopic hairs projecting from the joints, a thicker torso (call it an even 18 inches across), and a yet thicker (22" across) abdomen. Note, across, not circumference.

He's set up kinda like a centaur as far as body posture goes. His abdomen still projects horizontally. Where it joins with his torso is a right-angle joint from which sprout his legs. From the chest up, it's a very human arrangement as far as head and limb placement goes.

He's got the same hand-layout as we humans do--four and a thumb. He does have talons on the ends though. His feet are large, single talons.

Most of his carapace is covered in scars, everything from flechette and blaster tracks to what look like smooth craters--these are laser rifle burns.

Armor:

There's a description in Dropship, but what it boils down to is this: the armor is shaped in such a way as to redistribute explosive force over a wide area of his carapace. Thus, it is full of curves and sharp edges, mostly in the front. The torso, for example, kinda looks like old full-plate jousting armor... one big ridge down the center of the chest to force lance-blows to the side. It's all streamlined for him to take frontal impacts. (This is because getting behind him is a feat unto itself--call him overconfident)

His shielding system is the interesting bit--Bug's got two layers. The first is a 'personal' layer of nodes implanted in his exoskeleton. As he did this one himself, the job isn't as high-quality as he'd like, and the shields aren't much stronger than scout-class. Those are the shields he put in for his assassination work, so that he could take a single shot if needed while escaping or killing.

The second layer is the interesting one--this is the fast-charging sheild later mentioned in Dropship. It works like the fast-charging shields in StarSiege--it deflects almost all of the damage directed at it, but it drains power damned fast. It does, however, charge up pretty quick. So a point-blank mortar blast would leave him pretty much unscathed, but would completely empty his shield-banks, leaving him with his armor plate and his personal sheild layer to protect him until his outer layer recharged. As Bug darts around quickly on the ground, this is not a big problem for him--he'll take a hit and dodge the rest while his shields recharge.

It suits his combat style well, but it costs him big-time in maneuverability--Bug's got jets, but as you've read, he's both afraid of using them and not properly equipped to handle complex aerial maneuvers. For the most part, Bug is a ground-bound combatant, preferring to stick to hand-to-hand combat.

Chatka:

Six and a half feet long, this weapon is a monster in size. The haft is organic metal, quite literally grown by the workers of his hive and extruded into shape. It is not perfectly straight, but arcs subtly along its length, with small knobs protruding every so often. It's a neutral grey in color.

The blades affixed to each end are roughly triangular in shape. The end-point of each projects more than the two inner points. They are shaped in such a way as to pierce the thin chitin of a joint easily, and then to spread it apart as the point is thrust further in. The inner points are straight, and can be used either as a chopping weapon or to hook the limbs of an opponent. The edges between the points are, of course, razor sharp.

Member: DTM, XMEN
Professional Tank Driver
Card-carrying Base-Cracker
Ugly Son-Of-A-Gun

Bug's Tank Bumper Sticker:
"If you can read this, you're already street pizza."
