"The Forgotten" pt. 2

Post by XMEN Temujin »

Part 2

As Nac Yil'ic walked anxiously through the corridors to Command Central he could feel anticipation and cautiousness about finally battle hardening his ship against a Blood Eagle ship. He hoped that it wasn't a small BE vessel, like a Scout or Cargo class ship, he wanted a challenge to finally prove himself, his crew, and his ship.

He was in such a rush that the doors seemed to have hardly began the familiar drone and hiss of the pneumatic pumps before Yil'ic was through them.

"ETA Status, Rucip."

Rucip replied in a calm, confident, usual voice for him, "Approximately 2 hours now Captain, the other ship seems to have increased power to their engines and we may only make it there 15 minutes before they do."

"What is the tactical specs of the ship?"

"By our readings, they have 4 layers of golpercium enhanced polyotanium armor, a 200 terawatt shield generator and 14 Grokium plasma guns mounted on their ship. Along with 5 Tyric rocket launchers." said a strong looking, middle aged, yet pretty woman, by the name of Wyruin.

"Damn."

"Yes Captain, that pretty much sums up our situation". Wyruin said, even though she knew that it was unnecessary.

"Should we be prepared to stay and fight or be prepared to leave as soon as possible?" asked Rucip.

"I think that we could win, Butchers don't think out their strategies at all. They just come in blazing with full firepower. If we worked a plan out to get them to waste their firepower with us receiving minimal damage, we could win easily."

"Still, we should be prepared to retreat if it is necessary."

"I hope it won't be necessary Rucip, but you are correct, we should be prepared to retreat. Where would a good hiding place be?"

A very young and obviously inexperienced recruit said quite tentatively, "Captain, I don't want to interrupt, but, I have been doing scans of the area, and, I think that we could hide between the planet and the near moon."

"Rucip, look over his readings and see if they look good."

Without any reply Rucip went directly to work reviewing the scans started working on a good way to mask the ship from the Blood Eagle sensors who would most assuredly be searching for them if they had to flee.

"I will be in my quarters after talking to Ifera about boosting whatever we can out of the engines." Yil'ic said as he headed for the door of CC. He paused and looked back and thought about adding "I hope that finding that site is worth what we may lose in getting there." but decided against it because it would drop the crew morale, it seems that everything that is said by a captain of a ship is told to the entire crew within an hour.

He was wanting to get to the Generator room as fast as he possibly could, but he kept a cool, calm pace. If a captain were seen rushing or nervous, it would start hundreds of rumors throughout the ship. Rumors ranging from, "The captain has a fatal disease" to "We are defecting to the Blood Eagle." People have a tendency to take the smallest thing and turn it into something huge about a high ranking person.

He was astounded when he walked into the generator room. Even though the blast walls saved the ship and the other generators, the only one that gave way was into the main operations room of the Gen. room. There were pieces of equipment laying everywhere. He found the Overseer of Generator Operations helping too look for the bodies of 3 crewmen that had yet to be recovered.

"Overseer Ifera, I thought that very little damage was taken, this looks like a battle zone in here." Yil'ic said, very astounded, he couldn't seem to avert his eyes from the disaster that seems it should have crippled his ship.

"Captain", Ifera said quite surprised, "The damage to the engines is all that can be read from the CC, and very little damage was taken to the engines."

Ifera was well respected among the ranks of the Engineer factions, a calm, yet decisive woman that could be trusted at all times, she had fought many battles and had always managed to win them all. She was a good commander too, she had the looks. With her short black hair and deep crimson eyes, she looked very intimidating and very beautiful at the same time.

"From now on, report in to CC with ANY damage taken." Yil'ic commanded. Still without turning away from the atrocities that were before him.

"Understood, we are making repairs to our control stations. as of right now we have very limited control over the engine output and adjustments."

Still stunned, Yil'ic asked "How was it that only 9 crewmen were killed?"

"Other then luck, it was mainly that they were the only ones in the blastwalls working on the generator."

"I came down here to see if we could possibly boost power output in any possible way, more to the engines and shields if possible" Yil'ic said

"I'll see what I can do." Ifera said as she started walking to one of the few stations that were still working.

Yil'ic stopped her and told her, "Right now I think it's more important to help recover the bodies and fix generator control stations then trying to boost power output."

"All right, I will start working on the power output after we are fairly well finished up here." said Ifera

"Thank you Ifera."

Captain Yil'ic stood and stared for a few moments before he turned and left the Generator Room, once he was outside the door, he shuddered as he thought about those crewmembers who must have died a painful, terrible death, being burned alive by the fusion generator overload or the ones who died from pieces of equipment falling on them, probably shattering many bones throughout their entire body.
