I got my first film camera today! A used Canon EOS A2-E 35mm SLR. It's a mid-range SLR that's compatable with most of my current lenses. I'm told the EF-S lenses will mount... but I'd get a lot of vignetting. (sp?) It can only shoot a 1.5 fps, but if I get a power winder I can blaze through a roll of film in 7.2 seconds!
The main reason I got a film camera is because I'd like to take a darkroom class next quarter, but I can also shoot multiple exposures and use IR film (and yes, I do have a lense w/ marks for IR focus compensation).
Also, I can now compair the Canon 350D & the 40D to film using the same lenses and everything.
Since it's used and I only have 2 weeks to return it, I'd better make sure everything works properly.
I'd be REALLY careful about that EF-S lens mounting. The reason that you can't use an EF-S lens on a full-frame digital is the extremely delicate mirror mechanism would actually hit the back of the lens as it swings up out of the way. Needless to say that can be a very painful lesson to learn the hard way....
I never took a darkroom class but did some darkroom work while on the student newspaper in HS. I thought it was pretty cool. You really ought to read up a little on Ansel Adam's darkroom work. The guy would have loved Photoshop.
ok, note to self: do not put EF-S lenses on A2 (Considering I just paid $100 for it, I don't want to break it just yet.)
I wonder what Jerry Uelsmann thinks of photoshop... or what he could do with photoshop!
As far as the camera... I've only taken 2 shots so far, but the shutter is really quiet! It's a soft click vs. the 40D's solid "thunk" sound. I'm shooting on a $2 roll of expired fuji something or other just to make sure everything works... so I'll get the first roll processed on Monday.
I can't give any advice here because I'm totally unfamiliar with Canon gear. One of the things that I love about Nikon is that I can mount any F-mount lens that they've ever made.

I've been exploring more with my camera, and I'm starting to get better pictures than I thought I could, but I need to learn more.. I didn't think I'd get this addicted to this hobby... It's amazing how having a decent camera can make taking pictures fun.

just think, Hat... it only gets better as you learn all the features & techniques. Panning is alot of fun... long exposures make me play like I was 5 again (try drawing on the walls w/ a flashlight)... heck, something as dull as a duck in a pond can keep me occupied for hours as long as I've a camera in my hands. Out of all the hobbies I've tried, photography is the most rewarding (followed closely by RC flying).
Gambit..... my cameras are just a little heavy for my helo. (My little electric helo can barely lift itself... though there are video kits designed for it.)
oh... any of you submit anything for the TexasPhotoForum's Photo of the Year contest? Since the deadline was extended to today... I threw in 3 of my pics for the Nature, Sports, and Transportation categories.
I don't mean your full size bodies. Gah. Though you could use them on large models. The kits I referred to include things like mini-wireless cams that beam the pic back to the ground, or just lightweight digital ones that trigger a capture from your control.
yeah, I was just trying to be silly. :-S I always wanted to try one of those rocket kits that deploys a camera... it would be interesting to see what can be done with one of those.

Yeah, I think I submitted in the Transportation, Portrait, and one other category (I forgot what it was).

The bottom 2, you've seen before... but I don't remember if I've posted this one of the Koi before. I didn't like it initially because of the soft focus, but the more I looked at it, the more I liked it... I think it has a painted sort of quality to it.
Or should I have kept them secret and made you guess which were mine?
