Well... Just bought one of these...

Come in! Have a margarita or root beer? How about some fresh trout? :)

It's actually my very first non-work laptop!

Looks promising, and the reviews so far look good.

I'll know more in a couple of days. :D

It's BIG (wide). Full numpad looks nice, though.

Nice price :o

My father has an HP without the numpad and I asked him what he didn't like about the computer and he said just that. I got a HP with a full keyboard and love it compared to using his.

ROFL! I take it it was something suitably out of place?

It is a really nice laptop! I'm getting used to the keyboard, but it's not too hard. I'll probably get a full-sized keyboard for it anyways; I can type a LOT faster. Don't have any complaints about the laptop so far.

But man does Vista load slow!!! My wife and I cooked, ate, and cleaned up after our dinner tonight. And the dang thing was still "Loading Windows Vista for the first time". I suppose once Vista has gone through a couple of service packs, I'll try it out.

So I took my XP disk and did a format and install. :D
It runs real smooth now.

*EDIT: forgot to mention that this will also get linux.*

I have found that Vista boots faster than XP for me on my laptop and 3 different desktops. I have gone all Vista, I like it.

Did you get a good deal on the software Gryph? Where?
I am thinking about buying the 64-bit version.

Thanks!

The guys here at work have friends at MS who get them for $50 a piece for full install ultimate version from the Microsoft store, they got enough for our homes and the office. I got 4 for myself.

If you buy the retail box, it comes with both 32bit and 64bit versions in the box. I think Newegg has an OEM version where you actually have to decide on 64 or 32.

There a couple of annoyances but I live with them, like the allow/deny thing, you get used to it after a while and running into that prompt lessens drastically once you are done messing with setting things up and are into normal every day use.

I figure if I really need to get off of XP, I'll be able to in a couple of years when Microsoft has had a bit of time to refine their software.
