In the old days I put a file on a friend's computer which would randomly open the cd-rom, burp, then close it again. I still have that one somewhere. She knew something was up but wasn't savvy enough to figure it out.
<img src="http://www.camerasupport.com/oV/mavsigr ...

My dad hated Waynes World. Soo I recorded
"Waynes World! Waynes World! Party Time! Excellent! Wo Woo Wo Woo WOOOO!
And put it as the Windows Startup noise. This was before my dad knew that it was a simple matter of changing the startup alert. Drove him nuts for about three days because he wouldnt admit that I knew something he didnt untill he finally (head hanging) asked/ordered me to return his computer to its origional sound.

I once took a Star Wars sound-byte of "Stop rebel scum!" and assigned it to every single sound on a co-worker's computer. He would be opening his start menu and it would fire that sound off like 5 times "Stop .. Stop .. Stop .. Stop rebel scum!"

He actually went to the boss and I got a lot of @#%$ for it. When confronted, the guy said, "you don't mess with someone's computer!"

What an @#%$.
CF

There is a very fine line between 'hobby' and 'mental illness'. - Dave Barry
