I also had Bush first, but my runner-up Dem was about 73%, and not a name I recognized.

Hmm, need more data. I need a real left-winger to tell me how it went, and might need the full results as well. I'd like to make sure this thing isn't rigged for GW. I had Kerry in 1st, and 'ol GW in last. It's not slanted, it's just you all think alike. Honestly, I haven't seen much of Kerry's speeches, or seen him on TV at all, so I can't even say how accurate it is. But it does rank Howard Dean at 96%, and I don't like him all that much....

"Never, Never, Never Quit" -Winston Churchill

Dean 100%
...
#7: Lieberman 74%
and dead last, Bush, 29%

My social engineering radar went off when I was going through the questions, though--the wording struck me as 'off' somehow. Can't quantify it any better than that it seemed that the first half of the survey questions were all phrased in the negative, which I know in some fuzzy way is bad, but can't remember enough sociology/psychology to remember why.

A nice addition to the survey would have been a hotlinked one-paragraph description of each issue. Some of the issues I had no real idea what they were meant to do: The labor standards in the trade agreements one, for example. I figured it meant that anyone that traded with us needed to stick to certain standards, but I had no idea what those standards were and what the consequences would be if they did not. And did it apply to us as well, or was it one-way?

Mind you, I'm no real fan of any of the Democrats that are running for the office of President at this time. To me, they're all too busy stabbing each other in the back. If they'd have a nice powwow and figure out what the Democratic party as a whole wanted to stand for, and then picked the guy that best fit those ideas, I'd be more inclined to like 'em. As it is now, they seem too fragmented to be effective.

There's a really good chance I'll be voting for Daffy Duck this election.

I'm really glad it's not slanted (at least hugely!) toward one or another candidate/party. That would make a relatively useful tool into garbage. I wasn't surprised that we first three all turned up Bush - what I was surprised about was the 100% match in all three cases.

And yes, more info on the issues would be nice - but who summarizes the info? There's a million ways to slant that sort of thing, and here you're thinking they're trying to influence you based on whether a question is negative or positive. I think if you've kept up with things, generally, you should be OK. There were only a one or two issues about which I was clueless, and about all I do to keep up is listen to the news on my commute.

It's far from perfect, of course, but it gives you a starting place to do your voting research. If you look into where your top, say, three candidates stand on issues that are important to you, you're likely to find someone you can get behind.

Kind of like Pricewatch.

XMEN member
Card-carrying DTM
OKL Fish-napper

Though a program be but three lines long, someday it will have to be maintained.
The Tao of Programming

I think it places the top candidate at 100% (like AB got Dean 100%) and then goes down from there.
COLORS!

Kerry was first for me at 100%.

Edwards was second at 96%.

Lieberman and Dean were at 90%.

Kucinich was 83%.

Clarke was 75%.

Sharpton was 60%.

Bush was 50%.

The rest were much lower.

If the thing truly does take only the stance on an issue into account, then it works great. I'm not suprised at the 100%'s for Bush from you three. I am suprised that Lieberman made it in there though.

Anyways, I was leaning towards voting democrat this year, but I want to see who makes it out of the primaries, and who ends up sticking to their stance. Some of you may call me liberal, and you'd be correct on some issues. But on others I am conservative. My decisions in how I stand on things reflects the fact that I always vote the way that benefits me the best. Which is why I'm a bit suprised that Kerry apparently has mostly the same stance on things as I do. Heh.

Hmmm.. I wanted to see if there was any bias in this thing, so I answered "no opinion" to every question (or left it blank in the case of party preference selection). This was how they ranked the candidates:

1. Dean
2. Clark
3. Edwards
4. Kerry
5. Kucinich
6. Lieberman
7. Sharpton
8. Bush

They all scored 100%, but notice who was ranked last (even behind Al Sharpton).

Can anyone beat my Bush 15%?

(Top three were Kerry, Kucinich, Clark, all within 4% of one another)

But then, I'm Canadian. We "socialists" gotta stay more left wing.

------
Interesting. I'm "Comparing Candidates" right now, and while most Democrats say the Death Penalty Fairness issues should be at the very least reviewed, and the Republicans I'm looking at say it's perfectly fine, they're all of them opposed to outright banning it.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub141.ezboard.com/bxmenclan.sho ... s at: 2/3/04 9:31 pm
