Come in! Have a margarita or root beer? How about some fresh trout? :)

A friend once told me there was a special where they made it to Earth but I don't know if he was correct or not.
<img src="http://www.camerasupport.com/oV/mavsigr ...

I remember that one. It was called Terra (so why wasn't it Earth?). THe only episode made after the initial run that I know of was BSG2000 where an old Adama was telling a pshycic young boy the story of Starbuck who was his father and had been left behind on a deserted planet with only a Cylon to keep him company. What a piece of shat that was.
<img src="http://www.camerasupport.com/oV/mavsigr ...

IIRC:

The classic series ended after only one season. A TV special was made after that where they did make it to Earth, our Earth. Then there was another series (BSG 2k?) later about Richard Hatch (Apollo) and other people who weren't in the classic series but were from the Galactica, running around incognito doing stuff on Earth. I caught a few episodes of that second series but it wasn't very good.

Fry's Electronics is selling a DVD set with all the BSG episodes on it. I wonder if it has BSG2000 as all that as well.
<img src="http://www.camerasupport.com/oV/mavsigr ...

Having seen very little of the original show I got to watch it from a completely objective standpoint, and I gotta say, I loved it. My favorite parts, of course, were the space battles. IMO, they were done to perfection. Not a whole lot of sound effects, as if the cameras were sitting there in space (I let them have their engine sounds and explosions, it needed something) and the heavy drum beat of the music went PERFECTLY with the action. The CGI was done insanely well, with only a bit of slowdown during the Cylon mass-assault at the end. Good tactics to boot. When the Galactica went broadside and established a perimeter, it gave me chills.

Being in the Corps I also have to say that the military aspect appealed to me a great deal. Whereas almost every starship in a tv series these days is meant to be an exploration vessel, the Galactica was bred for war. The actors portraying officers and enlisted played their parts well, including all the strengths and vices real leaders have. The obvious dissent between the Military hierarchy and the Civilian leadership? Loved it. I was as outraged as Adama when he had to start taking orders from the new President.

I can't wait for them to make more. They left it hanging too much at the end. Can't say I was pleased with the last 15 seconds though, you all who watched know why. Too corny an end for what I thought was 4 hours well spent.

The world will not end in a blinding flash of light or virulent pestilence. Rogue and I were watching, and I'd pointed out to her in several earlier scenes how the ship physics were fairly realistic. Well, there was one shot in that big bad battle where Starbuck's ship was essentially circle-strafing a Cylon fighter. You could see that the main engines were thrusting while the manuvering thrusters kept turning the ship so that the mains kept pointing outward.

I screeched "PHYSICS!" <img src=http://www.thzclan.com/forums/images/sm ... bounce.gif ALT=":bounce">

She just rolled her eyes.

SAAB

Post by XMEN Wildchild »

Guys.. SAAB was I think one of the better shows that came out at the time. I rememebr Space Rangers tried vainly to hit the market but failed miserably. SAAB had a good idea at the start but failed when the market sharks got involved and canceled after only one series, but then they kinda did everything they could without filling in a few of the blanks. . .

Farscape, best damn show ever. Wprst thing to happen to that show... SciFi buying the right to it. 'nuff said.

BSG . . . Now from what i remember of the original series, correct me if I am wrong please, the original Cylons were a alien race that found humanity correct? Not the "Terminator idea" where we built intelligent machines and they fought back against their masters. Very SAABish if you ask me. However, this is 40 years after the end of the Cylon war, not 40 years after the original series. It was rewritten for an audience that has not had the opportunity to see the original, and to make it more modern day believable. The main story was changed with the strongest plots kept intact. Cylons killing humans because we played in their school yard.

When I first heard of the mini-series I was informed that it was only two shows and would not continue. That it was just the SciFi channel filling in for @#%$ Farscape up. But after the cheap as ending we got from BSG, there has to be a series in the making.

IMHO that is. . .

If I am rambling I appologize I just came from my girlfriends christmas party and am a little tired/ wired.

Not exactly.

Humanity ran into them while out in the colonies. Humans had helped out some other races to defeat the Cylons (robots) then the Cylons realized how powerful the humans were and decided to hunt them down.

The robot Cylons were slaves of a reptilian race named the Cylons. The robots killed their masters, took the name Cylon for themselves, then decided that they had to eliminate everyone.

Whether that was a programming fault or not, I don't remember.

But you are correct in that in the SciFi miniseries, the humans and Cylons had been at war, but had a ceasefire 40 years prior. No one had seen them since then.
