Got some new info on the job hunt at Edwards AFB...

Come in! Have a margarita or root beer? How about some fresh trout? :)

Fan-didily-tastic! Too bad the good places to live nearby are all burning down at the moment. 800 homes and counting.

Speaking of which... where do you plan to live? Gonna stay close and live in the middle of the desert with nothing around? Or do you bite the bullet and live somewhere with trees and water and people but have to commute every day?
<img src="http://www.camerasupport.com/oV/mavsigr ...

She's a 40+ year old living just off the base in Rosamond (yeah, I know it's one huge trailer park, but it's close and it's free).

I was thinking of some place green with people and water... but there isn't much of that around there. Also since everything is SO far apart, it's gonna be a bit of a shock for me.

I looked at housing and stuff in Lancaster. Not too bad... reminds me of Yakima here in WA. I lived there for a couple of years when I was younger... so the heat isn't that bad. (I've been in 110+ heat so I know.) Plus my parents grew up in a town like Lancaster.

It sure is brown though....

The entire Antelope Valley (Palmdale, Lancaster) is brown. It's the region between the Mojave Desert and the costal plains. It gets up to 115+ in the summer and well below freezing in the winter, and can see anything from flooding to snow. The plus side is that housing is relatively inexpensive for SoCal and the last 10 years has seen a HUGE boom in growth for the area, so it has pretty much the same stuff as any other big city now. It's just spread out over 500 square miles.

I have a friend who lives in Rosamond. It's a real sh!thole but it's close to the base. And you can always drive for 25 minutes to Lancaster if you get that bored.
<img src="http://www.camerasupport.com/oV/mavsigr ...

Did you know that you can't go out onto the lakebed for testing without a radio? The heat shimmer is so bad that you can't tell which direction is which out there. You could be a mile from the buildings and not know it.

Yeah I've seen it. The heat distortion is insane! Kinda looks like a funhouse mirror sometimes.
<img src="http://www.camerasupport.com/oV/mavsigr ...
