Re: Really addicting and fun!
Hehe, I remember playing this a year or so ago. Beat every level, even though some took a while. Fun game. On one of the levels I built a bridge that tetertotered as the train went across it to get it from one side to the other. On another level the bridge did not always hold when the train went across. If you look, the bridge moves up and down, so if the train hits it at the wrong time it could put too much pressure on a beam and break it.
-LoS-TimberWolf{FF}
Vehicle Specilist

I wish EZBoard allowed you to post an image directly in a post rather than a link from a webhost. I've got a pic of a bridge on lvl 7 that I did that sems that it should work, but I can't seem to support the arch correctly, or enough..

I don't care about figuring these out on my own. I'd rather have help and learn a little bit then just getting lucky every now and again..

"Never, Never, Never Quit" -Winston Churchill

Re: Really addicting and fun!
Experiment by adding and removing pieces, then test and see what the effects are on the rest of the bridge. By the end of the game you should be able to build a bridge and have it work with very few test runs.
<img src="http://www.camerasupport.com/oV/mavsigr ...

Or do statics in your pre-engineering courses.

"Statics" was a dreaded word among my school's engineering students.

Asha, are you saying you can build all 15 levels with no testing and have no failures? If anyone here can I'm sure it's you, but I still don't think you'll pull it off!
<img src="http://www.camerasupport.com/oV/mavsigr ...

Here's my level 7 solution. Came in well under budget, but I got there through a good bit of trial and error. The techniques I picked up here were useful later, too. If you don't want too much help, just read the description below and see if it sparks any ideas.

Notice the way the underwater support structures branch out from the narrow bottom to support the arch across the middle. The fat triangles just underneath the main span really help in anchoring those arch endpoints.

I'll not claim this as the best or most efficient solution. But it held the bleeping train.

Re: Really addicting and fun!
Run your eye along the curve of your arch. Notice how, if you follow the inner curve, there's nothing supporting the bottom? And if you follow the outer curve, it's only that 45-deg brace that carries it? Add some bracing between the lower hardpoints and the next bridge segment out, and you'll probably have it.

Oh, and once I beat lev. 13, lev 14 was easy (arches again). Lev 15 really strains the noggin, though. I had only a vague clue how to do it, and I went at it backwards. You'll see when you get there.

XMEN member
Card-carrying DTM
OKL Fish-napper

Though a program be but three lines long, someday it will have to be maintained.
The Tao of Programming

Re: Really addicting and fun!
Boy, both of those bridges look VERY familiar. Almost identical to mine! Hat, try tweaking the middle a bit as well. You need angular support me thinks. Adding verical supports to the outer hard points (making squares) seems to help a lot and allows you to reach a bit farther out.

My biggest mistakes were always over-engineering. More support is great except that you add weight at the same time.
<img src="http://www.camerasupport.com/oV/mavsigr ...

Re: Really addicting and fun!
That's what is kicking my ass on level 11. I've tried to do some arches, but can't seem to quite get them to hold up. Tried a big suspension bridge, and it would work save for the fact that everything settles right at the start and that snaps one of my cables. Phooey.

I'll get it yet.

Re: Really addicting and fun!
Yes! I beat all 15 levels!

13 and 14 were really fun... when I ran my train across it you would see this wave of red beams going across the whole structure, but none of them broke. I was holding my breath, though.

I must admit I had accidentally looked at a solution for 15 a day or two ago. I gave it a try and couldn't get that particular permutation to work, so I went about it a different way.

I ended up building a large honeycomb structure on the left side of the pivot point that outweighed the train but didn't fall apart when it settled, and that structure I merged with the rest of the bridge (also a honeycomb) and got it to tilt it up just enough for the train to ramp off to the other side.

Re: Really addicting and fun!
Well I've solved level 11 twice at least (accutally hundreds of times, but 98 of those were test runs that worked but not well enough.

The first time I beat level 11 I was playing normally, and spent about 33k on it.

So I'm sitting infront of my computer looking at level 11 and see you have 100k to spend. and I start thinking, I wonder what I could build with 100k. I clear level 11, and start building... and 3 hours later I have a 100% functional bridge that costs excactly 100k Nothing breaks, and looks pretty cool. the next thing I think I'm going try is to do level 11 so it only uses 2 hardpoints, and nthing else touchs the dirt

I think you could have a lit of fun on level 11 trying to solve it diffrent ways...

I've been taking the aircraft design approach:

build it just good enough to handle the loads.

It's a LOT harder this way.
