I have had similar issues on a laptop. First place I'd check would be the drivers for your network card/chip. Try several versions from the manufacturer if you have to.

Anyone tried Paladins from Hi-Rez yet? I tried a game or two; it's a bit like Valve's Team Fortress 2.

Definitely still has the Battlefield feel to it.

I think my favorite of the Battlefield series was the 1942, the first one. (Ah, Wake Island...) I think it was just the feel of it, but novelty may have also been a factor. And I loved the opening cinematic; really set the tone.
